Ive started a lot of threads on this board recently, which is out of character, but you fellas have the best knowledge of this kind of stuff…so here's another one.

I am building a cabin and will be using a 275gal water tank as a water source. I need to get an "on demand" water pump to pump the water from the source to the shower, toilet, and sink in my cabin. It is highly unlikely that I will be using any or all three of these simultaneously, but I'm still thinking I need something around 4GPM flow.

Do you guys have any suggestions? I will have constant electricity at the camp, so that won't be an issue. Ideas??

Can you not just get a normal always on pump and wire the plug to a switch?

And 275 gallons will require a lot of refilling. Always go as big as you can!

At our fishing cabin, we use something like this water pump. We have it hooked up to a 12 volt system, but you might be able to find one for 115 volt. Install an accumulator of some sort in your cabin piping somewhere so that the pump won't cycle off/on at a rapid rate as the pressure switch bumps off and on. We use about a 6 foot piece of 4 inch PVC mounted vertically on the wall for our accumulator. Works great!

Why not use a pressure tank setup like a house well? Gravity flow from tank to pump, pressure switch on tank keeps pressure in preset limits (such as 20 to 40psi) pump cuts in at 20psi, off at 40psi.

I would definitely go with the pressure tank. I have a small pressure tank/pump for my rainwater collection system and it works great. You can buy a combo pressure tank and pump from home depot (may have to go online) and it should work for your needs. Especially if you are not running a lot of water at one time.

Also make sure you get a check valve like the brass fitting that can be seen on the picture.

$80. Plumb it. Plug it in. You'll have a system no different than nearly every RV you see on the road. A check valve probably isn't a bad idea.

Can someone explain to me how to set up a pump/ tank system for lawn irrigation only? I have an existing hole in the ground with a 4" pvc pipe coming up thru a concrete slab.

For lawn irrigation, you will not use a tank. They make sprinkler pumps that are designed to run constantly. The shallow well pump and tank is designed to run a bit then shutoff, and repeat.

will- depends on how deep the water. If shallow, you can use an above-ground pump. If deep, may need sub.

How deep is deep? Water is not reached for at least 100' when using string & water finding paste.

Probably ought to talk to a well guy, if one does not pop up here. Google seems to be telling me that 90 feet is about as low as a above-ground jet pump will go.

So that means you'll need a submursible dropped in the hole, and are probably best off getting a pro to do it, rather than DIY.
