Has anybody here pulled the trigger on a custom rifle to your spec's? If so, who do you recommend? And why?

I recommend me, but that's because I wouldn't let anyone else mess it up.

However, I'm not taking new clients at this time.

Honesty is a good start.

Any particular platform you want to customize?

I know another poster who is doing business with the a sponsor of this board and he is very happy. This fellow expects a lot out of his rifles, and I trust his judgement.

Horizon firearms knows their stuff

Randy Fite in Richards,Derrick Ratliff in College Station or Russell Banks in LaGrange. No particular order. They're all good. However, depending on what barrel you want it could take up to a year to get it (Krieger).

I second Russell Banks, scout supply. He has built a few for me and they are awesome.

Russell and Derrick are both building projects for me right now. Russell's building a 6.5 SAUM and Derrick is putting together a 6.5 X 280 AI for me. By looking at their collective work (ie. from an accuracy standpoint)I'm pretty stoked.
Randy Fite will build your rifle, work up the load and give you 50 (I think 50) rounds of ammunition. Save the brass, take it back to him and for a nominal fee he'll reload it again.

Bobby Pitchford in Waller does really impressive stuff with bolt guns and AR's in terms of accuracy.

I'm thinking about having him work up a little bolt gun for me to run compact and suppressed.

They've done exquisite work for me in the past and would like to try them for rifles before going to someone else.

So they're my bet. Take that for what you will.

If I were to build another custom rifle...I'd only have Robert Gradous build it. The wait is long, but I don't think there is a better gunsmith. Better yet, I'd go to Robert's shop and build it with him as I've done twice before. I'm sure there are other good gunsmiths...but for me none are better then Robert.

Man, I am jealous of you getting to do a build with Gradous. I am getting ready to drop off parts to Mark Pharr in Round Rock. He has built another rifle for me in the past and it was a shooter. I am doing a more handy length 6.5X47 for hunting and plinking.

We have built a few rifles for the guys around here and everyone seems to be happy with the work. This is a great time to build a gun. Components are constantly getting better and better and rifles are getting more and more accurate.

I have a Custom McWhorter 6.5 Weatherby rifle. McWhorter makes some outstanding rifles

MG Arms out of Spring is another builder of high end rifles. He's accurized my Ruger #1 and did nice work.

I've got two rifles that Tim built and they're both shooters. Good fellow!
