I know that you cant carry on college campuses, but what about having a gun in your vehicle in a parking structure or parking lot? I have looked through the local polices and I see no mention. Anybody know where the line is drawn?

Legal.

Only place you have to be really careful about guns in your car is federal property.

You're good, see definition of Premises at the end.

(b) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, regardless of whether the handgun is concealed, on or about the license holder's person:

Can you walk around on the side walks if you're licensed and concealed?

Legal in your car on campus. Legal on your person and outside on campus. Not legal in building on campus.

Yes, but you don't have to be.

Are you in Texas? The advice above may not apply depending on where you live.

When I was in a dorm (Fowler), I often had an SKS and/or shotgun in my dorm. Several friends also had some sort of firearm in their rooms. Ours were for shooting at the Brazos River, going to the gun range south of College Station (forgot the name), or some impromptu hunt that became available.

I always transported mine between midnight and 2am, in a gun case wrapped with a saddle blanket. I would have my car curbside and nearby.

Once an RA "caught" me, and asked what I was transporting. I told him they were fishing rods. He said, "Yeah...right...fishing rods" and let me go.

Different culture back then, before the school massacres, and the thought of using them in a murderous spree never entered our darkest nightmares.

Bought my first AR from a BQ bud right in dorm 11. Moved it to car trunk because we seldom locked our rooms.

Different times.
