This might be a dumb question but I am not an exotics expert so I need a little clarification.

Is there any distinct differences between an Axis doe and spotted Fallow doe?

I have a hunt coming up and I know there is fallow doe on the ranch and I don't want to make a mistake by shooting a fallow, thinking it is an axis. Not all of the fallow have spots like axis but a lot of them out there do.

I've heard all Fallow have a distinct "adams apple" but the doe is not as defined as a buck. Are there any other distinctions?

I find that they are easy to distinguish-

Fallow:

Axis:

ETA: Axis will have a distinct throat patch, fallow will not.

One's pretty . . . the other's not!
Also, the Bucks , and Does I believe, have an "Adam's Apple."

Fallow can be spotted, chocolate, completely white, or spotted so faintly as they appear white.

Late spring thru summer is when they are brightest and the easiest time of year to mistake a fallow doe for an axis doe.

Axis by contrast are always the darker orange/red coloring with bright white spots, buck and doe.

Look at their neck.

Also, as provided through photographic evidence above, Axis look directly at you while Fallow look to the left.

Axis are brown-ish w/ white spots. Fallow have white spots w/ brown-ish pelts.
