Does anyone have a recommendation for a taxidermist in the DFW area for a shoulder mount for a buck i shot this last December?

I have had one recommendation for Double D Taxidermy in Rockwall but would like some other recommendations as well.

Danny Lee in benbrook. Trust me. Does great work. Have 1 buck and a mallard on the wall from him. Have another buck at his shop right now. His number is 817 249 2187.

I'm going to re-suggest Double D. He's done 4 whitetail and an elk for me, and is currently working on my whitetail and pronghorn from this past fall.

Great work and great prices.

Here is the obligatory "Flagg Taxidermy". They are the must use guys if you are a big SCI / Highland Park type. They do incredible work, but you pay for it.

I've had good luck at Ricks Outpost. On 380 between Mckinney and Denton.

Alpine Taxidermy 817/478-0501. Talk to Terry Tadsen, tell him Doug sent you. Does excellent work.

Double D does great work for cheaper than most. If you live on the east side of Dallas no reason to go anywhere else.

Terry at Alpine does good work if you can get him to do it for you, and not one of the other guys at alpine that help with the taxidermy work. He is also pretty steep with his prices these days.

I would advise against Double D. I have one whitetail from him that I am extremely underwhelmed with. I dont care what his prices are, i would not pay for him to do another mount for me again.

Aaron Austin at Texas Wildlife Taxidermy does high quality work, and is a good guy. He is out Texas Motor Speedway.

If you were willing to get outside of dallas, I would suggest Jerry Huffaker in abilene or Rocky Stanley in Nocona.

Not knocking you, but could you give some reasons as to why? All of mine, and everybody I know that has used him has been extremely satisfied.

I will go home and take pictures of the work tonight and post them up. To summarize, the nose of the buck is to snipey for a whitetail, the work around the eyes and ears is poor, and the fit of the skin to the form is not great.

I brought these issues up when I picked up my deer, and he just shrugged them off. I had heard great things about him, so I gave him a try. I was just underwhelmed.

Ok, as promised, the work of Dave Dooley. I will let you decide if you like it, however, i will point out what i dont like.

Notice the Snipey, unatural nose.

Notice the oversized, and poorly painted weeps in front of the eyes.

Notice the poor work around the ears.

Notice the lack of muscle definition in the mount. I, to this day, do not believe he mounted it on the form we agreed upon. If he did, the skin does not fit the muscle definition of the form we picked. Also, the ears do not look right IMO. Overall, i feel the man is extremel over rated as a taxidermist.

Now for a much better quality mount, done by Rocky stanley almost 20 years ago.

Much better work around the eyes

Much better work around the ears

The shape of the head is correct, the muscle tone stand out, but it doesnt look like a deer on steriods. He just looks natural, which is the goal!

That second one does look much better.

I agree. I may make some people mad that are friends with, and have work done by, Dave Dooley. But, there are two sides to every story.

I hope that whoever the OP gets to mount his buck does a great job, and helps to preserve his memories!

Again, not knocking your experience, but here are some of my DD mounts. If anything, it will help the OP with his decision.

And finally, pre-toe-of-death:
