Fencing cost estimate?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Finished building our house a couple of months ago. Cut out 2 acres in the middle of a corn field on a very nice hill (we lease out the farmland).

Would like to enclose the 2 acre homestead in the wire net fencing. If my estimates are correct I need approximately 1300 linear feet of fencing with four corners and 2 gates.

Anyone give me an estimate of what it should cost for materials and then also a cost for the labor to put it up? I haven't built fence since I was a teenager and don't really have the time to now with my 8-5 for that is usually about 60 hours a week.

TIA

I've built miles of fence in the last couple years and I've always gone with $2.50 a foot. This includes materials and labor. Since there's gonna be 4 corners and I hate doing corners I may go up 50-60 cents a foot. I would include the purchase of the gates separate as the price of a gate may vary depending on what you want. Just my 2 cents

Net wire can vary but a 660 foot roll would cost approximately $370. T-post could run 4-5 bucks apiece depending on what you get. Cedar stays go for around 80 cents apiece. Barbed wire is around 60-80 bucks a 1300 foot roll. Tie wire probably 40 bucks a roll. Pipe for the post around 2 dollars a foot depending on size. Concrete around 5-8 dollars a bag if I remember correctly, I may be a little off on that. I can't remember off the top of my head on splicers to splice the net wire or clips for the T-post (I want to say around 80 bucks for a big bag for good clips but clips should come with the net wire).

Just curious, why do you want wire fence around the entire lot? Only reason I ask is that I live in a place that is almost exactly what you described (2 acres, top of a hill, in the middle of corn / wheat fields, on land the family leases for crops). We only fenced in a 100 x 50 foot section for our "backyard" and left the rest open. Saved a lot of money, and we love having it open.

Aggie 2001 2005,

Want to section off the homestead plus give the dogs a big area to run, etc. Would also like to do aome sort of "backyard" fence as well for whem they need to be more confined.

I guess the price goes to hell in a handbasket when you do smaller areas... I worked for my grandfather for a bout 5-6 years while I was in jrhigh and highschool, and still work for him when I'm home. He builds fence, but he usually charges 1.25-1.50 a foot, but the smallest of those jobs was about a mile, and the longest is about 3 miles.

My advice:
#1: Don't put cedar stays in. They make for a not as stout fence (I guess if you aren't running stock then it won't be to big of an issue... I'm used to dealing with ****ing goats.)

#2: Make damn sure that they (the fence builders) make the fence straight as possible. The keys to a 50 year fence are as follows: Strong corners, straight line, very tight wire

#3: Get low tensile wire. There really is never a need for high tensile wire, its a waste of money and a pain in the arse to work with.

#4 Just because that the fence builder is the biggest one around DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE THE BEST. We have one fence building company here in the San Angelo area that builds the crappiest fences ever. and people buy it. Their fences last 10-20 years, 25 if you are lucky. My grandfather has fences that have been in the ground for 37 years and are stronger than what some people put up that are brand new.

If the people want to use clips on the T-posts, thats great, if they use tie wire, thats great too, just make sure they do not use baling wire, tie wire has been galvanized.

I don't know what sort of soil you have (most likely mostly black dirt seeing as you rent out farmland) But if somebody has a post driver, they can do just as good in black dirt by putting the posts in 4-5 foot. We prefer jobs that have 10-14 inches of dirt, then solid rock, because we use an Air drill

Edit: found a typo
Edit II: found another typo, I'm on a roll this morning

A fence builder with a post driver can build a better looking and stronger fence using 3" tubing driven into the ground. It is also cheaper than buying GOOD big cedars for the corners and gates. As far a net wire I don't use any but "StayTite", it is worth the extra money I think.

Forgot to mention we are in black dirt in the Bell/Milam/Falls area if anyone has any recommendations.

My dad just had one built (7 wire fence) at the corner of falls bell and McC county line.
Just over 2$ / foot, 4 in welded steel corners,
Wood post every 5 post, post 10 foot apart.

I will try to get the name and post it.

I sent my dad a txt reminding him. I think he built about 1,500 feet and only had two corners.....

Canyon Lake Ag, I am just guessing but you ground is much harder to put post in than some of the other places.
We have a guy down here with a couple of Bobcats and post drivers and he can knock out a mile or so a day without breaking much of a sweat. Uses pipe corners and braces (corner post with a 45 degree brace down to a pipe driven into the ground about 5' leaving about a foot out) don't think you could knock it over with a D6.
He pays good but most of his hands speak a foreign language but they don't know anything but work. They are a pleasure to watch and build some of the best fence I have ever seen.
But ground around here does not have rock like where you are!!

I just had 5,930' of 4' net wire installed. The net wire was $2.61/ft. With everything (H braces, kickers, etc.) it came out to $3.74/ft. I had a lot of gulleys to fence so you probably would come in a lot cheaper than the $3.74 all-in. Round pipe post ever 24' feet or so with t-posts in between. Barbed wire run at the bottom the length of the fence. Everything is galvanized.

If you need a quote I used http://www.j4fs.com/
