I apologize if this has been discussed, but I couldn't find it anywhere in a forum search.

I received a Glock 19 Gen 2 made in March 1991 for Christmas.

After doing some research, in 1992 Glock issued a 6 part "Upgrade" that they didn't want to call a recall due to cost. I've seen conflicting views online of whether to send the gun in for the upgrade parts or not. According to what I've found, I should have bare metal trigger linkage if the upgrade has been done, but mine is black which indicates original. A big thing that several people say is bad about the upgrade is the old extractor is way better than the replacement they put in.

I took it to the range yesterday, and it shoots like a dream. Fits great in my hand (hate the finger grooves of gen3&4, that's why I was given gen2) and after running a few magazines through it I was hollowing out the center 3-4" of the bulls eye of the target at 10ft.

What is the OB's opinion on getting or not getting the 6 part upgrade? I hate to mess with a good thing if not necessary.

If it was my Glock 19 I would send it in for the upgrade. The primary reason is there have been cases of slam fires, which are definitely a safety issue and one you should address as soon as possible.

They'll do the upgrade for free, especially on one that old.

What's the cost? I have a gen 2 G26 that has a similar looking trigger.

I never sent my gen2 G17.. I should, but I just don't shoot it all that much.

My understanding is you pay for shipping to them and they do it for free. Don't quote me on that. I'm going to check with a local Glock Armorer and see if Glock will send him the parts to do it or if I need to ship it off.

According to a forum post on GlockTalk, Glock will send the parts to a certified armorer. Just have to pay the armorer his fee. I prefer that over shipping fees through an FFL. Gonna try that out.

I'm in central Ohio, just East of Columbus. Nowhere near TX.

Fire, that's almost my mindset. However 1 mischarge is all it takes to endanger someones life or the gun not working properly to save mine. I think I've convinced myself that I'll always have that possibility in the back of my mind unless I do the upgrade.

I contacted an armorer a few weeks ago about this. He had never heard about the tech service bulletin. I gave him the bulletin number, and he contacted Glock. They sent him the parts and he installed them today at no charge. Ran some rounds through it afterwards and works great. Now I won't have the lingering thought in my mind of the possible misfire ever happening.

There was a thread on a little gun forum, about how some CT gun shops were willing to trade new Glocks for pre-94s.

Just an idea - if you're interested, I can track it down.

Buy a Glock 17 trigger and put it in... its smooth with no ridges on it. Its WAY better. Change out whatever parts are recommended and while you are at it and put in a 3.5# connector.

It will probably be cheaper than the shipping.

You can literally dissemble and resemble a glock with a stick... made out of plastic. It is quite possibly the simplest most serviceable repeating firearm ever made. If you are even remotely handy, there is no good reason to have someone else switch out parts for you.

Edit: ... unless you get the parts for free and an armorer will do the work for free. (I guess I should have read the whole thread first).

Yea, after I got home I completely disassembled, cleaned thoroughly, then reassembled the whole gun. I got this for xmas and had only did the "field disassemble" and cleaning. It was pretty gunked up when the armorer was taking it apart, so I figured I'd do the whole cleaning.

Other than these parts, the only mods I'm doing/done is night sights (I already installed them myself) and a Texas A&M rear slide cover plate (need to order it). Since this will be my EDC I want to leave all functioning parts stock. It's also my second home defense weapon in addition to the shotgun.

Bradley, I like my gen2 without the finger grooves on the grip. I hate the grip of the gen3 and gen4. This is the reason why I got the gen2 for xmas this year.
