They say they have shot 50 rounds through it. Pretty wild. I worked with some contractors in Afghanistan that had 3D printers in their office and they told me they could make a pistol but it would only be able to shoot a few rounds and then fall apart

Interesting. There was a thread a while back where several swore up and down that 3d printing would probably never have any impact on the firearm world too.

What's the deal

What's stopping anybody from buying an 80% AR lower and make anything they want. Or if your going to commit a crime anyway what's to keep you from stealing a gun.

Bad guys would never steal a gun or carry in a gun free zone, that's illegal. Do you think they're criminals or something?

This is cool. I wonder how different it is than rapid prototyping.

Imagine a cartel or organized crime organization being able to produce something like this in semi-large quantities.

They may not have the money to start a gun factory, but at least it would open up a new avenue for buying guns illegally.

Crazy.

Imagine a group of freedom fighters and patriots using these to protect against tyranny!

I am personally not scared of drug dealers or organized crime, especially if someone would decide to enforce our current laws.

Crazy.

I'm positive they do, but they also laugh at the minuscule margins legitimate business create.

I guess I wasn't talking about actually creating business, but rather creating an easier avenue for them to obtain guns.

And I'm not afraid of petty drug dealers either. I'm more afraid of the people that kidnapped my cousin and his family two years ago and we never saw them again.

Maybe it will work for more then a few rounds in a few years.

This one was sintered stainless steel. Uses a laser to melt/fuse particles together , thenlays down another layer. I wonder how much surface prep work (grinding, sanding, polishing) they had to do.
