At Home Depot. Mexican yard crew said the alarm was going off and a guy got in and stole DVD player, radar detector. They jimmied the lock on my f250. In clear site. At lunch time. I was in the store for 10 minutes. They missed the covered up .40 cal in the door thank god. I'm not sure what exactly would have happened if I caught them but it would have involved bodily injury.

Someone broke into my dad's F-150 last week. Apparently Ford has some notoriously sheetastic locks

You sure they didn't punch the door lock with a regular screw driver? My F250 has been broken into that way. You can't even tell if you are using keyless entry unless you look close or try the key in the door.

Locks stop people from casually getting in, but doesn't stop a determined theif for more than a few seconds.

Cut off a finger, or a hand, and it stops real fast.

Yeah. The lock works fine. They punched it with a screwdriver somehow. He keyhole is damaged. They mist have hand picked somehow. Didnt take long.

Also white Chebby trucks are kind of non unique at Home Depot lol.

Install these after you replace your cylinders.

smack a screwdriver in, and twist real hard...it gives.

They use a regular screwdriver and force it in the lock hole and it shears the tumblers in the cylinder then they just turn the screwdriver like a key.

I went to Ford and bought the parts and replaced the cylinder and door handle in my old F250 myself.

Someone tried to do the same with my new F250 but the plastic holding the cylinder broke before they could shear the tumblers so I just left it like that. I can use my ket in it if I am careful, but if anyone trys to jam it again it will break off.

Alot of people install the jimmyjammers linked above.

Ford pickups are the easiest vehicle to break in to. There was a writeup in the SA Express about cartels stealing fords bc of how simple their locking mechanisms are.

I feel your frustration. I've had my last two trucks broken into. Both times they used a screw driver. I've since gone keyless. It may not stop them, but I figured if they don't see an easy way in they will move on down the line.

I hate thieves and would like nothing more than to catch them in the act. It would probably be a few months before they would be able to use their hands again.

This morning I spent 3 hours making some temporary repairs to my wife's dads house that was broken into sometime last night. Did I mention I hate thieves?

Have keyless entry handles installed on your doors. You can have a switch installed under the hood. On Fords they will also go behind the square plate that surrounds the handle/lock instead of punching the lock. Just another two cents to add.

Hate hearing stuff like this, but be happy you still have your truck. My Dodge was stolen in San Antonio last month and has yet to be recovered (most likely was across the border before I ever woke up).

I just drive a POS Ranger. No one wants to break into my truck.

Sorry about the break-in, though. That sucks.

Wife went to get her hair done awhile back "cuz they had a special", leaves an expensive purse ON THE CONSOLE where all of humanity can clearly see that no one is in the truck to watch it. Yep, got broken into by that screwdriver method mentioned above. This was a gmc Sierra btw with an alarm. All they took was that purse and left alot of other valuables.

Effin thieves.

+1
and you're damn lucky they didn't get that pistol.

Also thanks for clarifying that it wasn't a Polish or Japanese yard crew.

If you have remote entry, you can replace the front door latches with back door latches. No keyhole but you wouldn't need it.

Is there a provision for handling a dead battery?

Beat me to it. This is what my brother did on his Excursion after it happened to him.

Re: Dead battery.

Buddies who have this done on their trucks have a switch installed under the hood to pop the hood to get after battery in that case.

The door metal will have to be massaged back out. Its dented, but not creased, from the force of the screwdriver.

Katy, Tx. Home depot at I10/Fry. Broad daylight, with traffic.

Another reason I drive old beaters now. They don't look like anything worth stealing is in them.

My suburban was broken into at Lupe Tortilla's (59/Kirby in Hstn) using the screwdriver. Afterwards the key in the lock works as well as it did before the break-in. I can't decide if that is horrible or incredible engineering.

IM guessing they saw me get out of the truck with two young kids and after brief scoping saw a portable DVD player....radar detector was just gravy I guess. Does anyone even use those anymore? Its a whistler....probably 50 bucks when I bought it 10 years ago. LOL.

You're lucky they didn't take the truck. A while back we had a rash of car thefts out at I-10 and 99.

Also, take your fackin' gun with you when you leave the vehicle. That's how guns end up on the street and wind up being used to kill folks. If you don't have a carry license, get one. If your gun is too big or heavy to carry, don't bring it with you. Get a lighter gun and CARRY it. It does you no good if you walk up on a guy in your truck and it's in the truck with him.

Edited to change "killin' folks" to "being used to kill folks."

I have a chl. I sometimes leave the gun in the truck because I need it after work but I can't carry at work. You are totally correct. It needs to be on me or locked at home. It's going in the safe now. I can't carry at work so I can't carry it at all.

Console vault is a good option if you want to have your weapon in your truck while at work. Won't help if the truck goes missing, but should keep the average low-life from walking away with a new toy.

I used to have that problem too, so I know what you're dealing with. I finally decided to start carrying it into work anyway. Nice little hidden holster in my Maxpedition back pack and no on is ever the wiser. Have done so for nearly two years now.

Ive SERIOUSLY considered that exact same thing. I have no idea why im concerned that some ******** would find it or something....I dunno. Plus it sucks when a law abiding citizen wants to do the right thing but has to break the law to do it.

Ill probably opt to leave it at home until ive had enough.

My last employer had a no gun policy too. It was in my bag every day. No one would have ever known unless I had to pull it out and use it, at which point I'm betting they would've been glad I broke the rule considering the building was open to everyone with no security presence at all.
