Anyone have experience fishing the dike? I'm looking to go out this weekend and I'm not sure what to expect.

Need a little more info. Boat, kayak or wade?

IMO, best bet is Mosquito Island. Once on the dike, it is the oyster reef on the left side about 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile. Park and wade out on the island. It is a fair walk to get out to the end. I've had more luck on the right side, but some folks prefer the left side. Fishing the bottom can lead to lots of hang ups, but if you cast far enough out, there are fewer shells. Live on a popping cork is always a good play. Be careful of tanker waves, the dike blocks most, but occasionally one slips by. They aren't too dangerous at that point, but can sneak up on you. Be careful with your truck. Lots and lots of break ins there. Good luck. I'm sure the 'experts' will chime in soon with the real info.

Taking my can lights and generator out tonight, I will let you know how I do. Success can be had drifitng a live shrimp through lights on the high rock side (southwest)past the last launch or at the end. Gets busy with lights on the weekends in the summer. Pulled in a 30in red last time and will occasionally hammer the trout. Lots of people chunking dead bait on the bottom hoping for the best, but I never really see them catching anything.

gawnfishin, we'll be out there Saturday night hopefully depending on how the conditions are. We've only been a couple of times this summer and its been a little slower than usual. Be sure to post back and let us know how you do.

There is a deep hole next to Mosquito Island. Be careful wading there, as lots of people have drowned there.

Only peeps that can't swim. It's deep and drops off kind of sharp, but there's no squirrely currents or anything in it.

Sorry I am just now getting back. Wind was strong out of the south probably 15 mph- we got our lights on around 9 pm and fished until 2 am. Only managed one keeper at 20 inches and a lot of 10-12 inch throw backs. I put away the live shrimp early due to the amount of small fish and threw a 3 inch new penny gulp on a 1/8 oz jig head most of the night. Mosquitos lit me up. Good luck tonite hope y'all do better.
