Schmellba - thanks for post. I've seen those rectangular style cases before, and it appears some of the more expensive Fox and Browning guns came in that style. GunBroker has a few Fox shotguns in that style of case.
The field grade Sterlingworth came in a different style. It is tapered with the butt fitting in the large end and the barrel extending into the narrow end. The wood cleaning rods fit in between in some felt sleeves. The case opened and closed with a "leather cap" that fit over the large end and had straps and basic buckles.
I did a search based on OFN's suggestion of Boyt, and it came up with this that is the closest thing I've seen on the shape.
