Im a physician. If I take a community ER doc that can refer me patients to my ranch to hunt and fish a few times each year, would I be able to deduct gas, food, bait, etc?

If I were preparing your return, I'd be okay deducting 50% of that as entertainment. I'd also make sure you understood the IRS rules regarding documenting business purpose and how fun it could be if the IRS challenges the deduction. But it's legit, IMO.

Now if you take the same guy a few time each year and he never refers anyone, then I'd start questioning the business purpose.

Using the term "ethical" when discussing legalized wealth redistribution/highway robbery by the government seems kind of......funny......to me.

Gotta love TexAgs... this thread was the third suggestion from google.

So here is the skinny:

Have company, have employees (2), and wish to join duck hunting club for client entertainment (and legit client entertainment, not just as a write off). How does one go about this? It seems expenses related to the client entertainment are 100% deductible but the membership fee is not or is only 50%.

I am not trying to just get a tax write off, otherwise I would be looking to write off my deer lease... any help is greatly appreciated.

I hate taxes!

There are a few CPAs that regularly answer tax questions on the business board. You might consider posting over there.

Schmelba, I agree with a lot of what you say, and you are spot on here.

Gotta love people who don't realize that Google bases its search off of your personal browsing history

Really? Always wondered why all those ads are for hunting stuff.

I was pointing out that there was already a thread and topic on TexAgs about this.

Club dues and membership fees are not deductible. Not that you won't be able to find someone that would maybe do the 50% etc.

However, expenses incurred at a club may be deductible. Green or cart fees, meals, etc. (these would be at 50%). Same goes for a hunting club. Same principle applies.

Funny, sounded like you were saying that this thread is #3 on Google Hit list.

Reading this thread shows how needed the reply to function was.

Don't let these guys scare you, it is totally deductible.

These are my opinions, I am not a lawyer, accountant, or a registered financial adviser But hey it's TEXAGS we know stuff!.

It was. The point I am making is that I should have known there would have been a thread on Texags.

I am fully aware of how browsing history influences advertising and search results... in class of 09 not 89.
