I'm considering a Mad River Adventurer canoe, but I wanted to see if there are any OB posters that have experience with them. The weight (87 lbs) of the 16 ft canoe is close to an Old Town or similar traditional style.

It seems like you give up some storage.
I'm interested in durability, handling, etc.

Thanks in advance.

What will you be using it for? What type of water/loads?

I'm about to buy a NuCanoe Frontier...part canoe, part kayak. They are incredibly versatile.

12 for me...10 seems a little small for my purposes.

I looked at one earlier this week at MOC Kayaks here in Austin. I'll take their demo one out either tomorrow or this weekend right behind their shop on the Colorado for a test drive.

I haven't done a lot of Saltwater fishing, but after this addition that might change. I'm definitely interested in taking it into protected saltwater for fishing some flats.

Most of my fishing will be in smaller lakes and the occasional river fishing around central Texas using a variety of techniques (spin/cast/troll/fly).

I'll probably deck it out with a trolling motor and FF.

That was my next question...I was considering this make and model primarily because of stability and ease of motor attachment. I was actually considering getting a small 2hp motor to help me out on windy days in the bay which is pretty much every day. I am not sure the kayaking purists will like it but I saw a poster who did it on TKF and thought it was a pretty nice setup.

I will stop hijacking this thread now.

We will primarily use for recreational canoeing on lakes and rivers (freshwater). We have 2 kids so looking for 2, so we can go with one adult / one kid in each. However, might need to fit 3 in a canoe sometimes so middle seat is a need. Speed isn't much of an issue, but weight is due to potential to portage.
