I just recently got a 270 Weatherby Mag Mark V Ultra Light weight and its nails so far. I'm a Weatherby guy so had to have it in my collection. I have the 257 Weatherby, 270 Weatherby, 7mm Weatherby, 300 Weatherby, 30-378 Weatherby and 340 Weatherby. I think my next one is going to be the 240 Weatherby Mag.

Didn't pursue it.
Had a 6.5 X 280AI built.

Shot 140 NoslerAB at 3050-3100 fps.
Didn't like bullet's terminal performance on both my Elk and my big WT this year.
I'm going back to 2 rifles ... a 270WSM and plain ole 270Win as a backup.
Once again, I was not happy with the AB bullets in the 270Win ( 130gr at 3200 fps). Accuracy was "ok" ( .75"), but they were "blowing up" on a WT Doe's shoulder. Gonna go back to Sierra 130gr Gameking BTSP in the 270 at 3100 and try Barnes LRX 129gr in the 270WSM.

Maybe a different bullet. But, realistically, it's basically a 270 Win.( just 6.5 not 6.8). With the right barrel you can get the same out of a 270.
In 53 yrs of shooting deer, I'm tired of re-inventing the "perfect" cartridge ( the opposite of good is better!)

An old friend's father in law shoots one. One day he shot it in the living room. The bullet went through the couch, then the wall into the kitchen. Poked holes in a few pots in the cabinet. Passed through the cabinet door and then through the dishwasher. It then exited the house through the wood siding. Might be still going.

I am interested in your experiences with the .270 win vs some of the other "better" cartridges. I like the availability of the .270 win, but I like the similar or better ballistics of the 6.5s, especially reduced wind drift. I'm also considering a .280 AI for a one and done North American big game rifle with reasonable recoil, but not enamored with essentially being forced to handload or pay super high ammo prices.

What keeps you coming back? It sounds like you have trigger time with a lot of cartridge/rifle/bullet combos.

The short answer is I've shot a lot of different rifles. I've never been a fan, personally, of 7mm. In fact, I've got a McWhorter 7 RUM for sale at Los Cazadores right now that shot a .194" group ( shameless plug).I've hunted with ( from top to bottom) 7.82 Warbird, 300 Win, 300 WSM, 7 RUM, 270WSM*, 270 WIN, 6.5 x 280AI, 6.5 X 47 Lapua, 243 Win and 22 X 243 AI.
I'll also give you some "pet loads."

Probably the best all around cartridge in a long time!
A lot of my buds in STexas have gone to that over a 300 Win.
