Howdy!
I am a PhD student at Texas A&M in the Department of Entomology. My research focuses on controlling Culicoides spp., better known as biting midges. These flies are responsible for vectoring pathogens that cause EHD and Bluetongue in White-tailed deer.
I am looking for owners of white-tailed deer breeding operations to help with this research by volunteering a small amount of time each month. The goal of this study is to be able to track the movement of biting midges across the state of Texas. This will help to develop a resource for white-tailed deer producers to know when to expect biting midges on the ranch, with respect to factors such as weather and location.
There is an article in the upcoming edition of TRACKS magazine that will outline our research efforts. Please forward this information to anyone that might want to help and feel free to contact me with any questions!
Thanks y'all!
