Ok fellers, need some help. Looking for some proven spots. Looking at the tropical route..... Carribean, Costa, Grenada, BVI....etc. I know y'all have some good ones so let em fly. The missus wants a private pool and I want some good offshore fishing. WIll be traveling in April.

I'd recommend Hawaii... specifically Maui or Kuaui. Can give specific recommendations on areas to stay if interested in heading west vs east.

My friends went to some place off the Yucatan peninsula and swear it was the nicest place ever. Clean beach, no children, all-inclusive, great food. They said the Mexicans knew how to cook Japanese food really well.

Returned last night from honeymoon in St. Lucia. Zero negatives. We didn't fish but there were several outfitters available. Took a speed boat to tour parts of the island, snorkel, etc and it was beautiful. We will go back again. I can give more details if you have any interest.

The Philippines - Boracay or Palawan.

We did costa rica. 1 night San Jose, 2 nights at the pacuare lodge, 3 nights at the arenal volcano, and 4 nights in the guanacaste region. Good times

Punta Cana was nice. Did an all inclusive and only left our resort once and that was to snorkle.

Excellence Playa Mujeres. Get the roof top with the plunge pool, and spring for the Excellence Club. Went on our honeymoon in June, and are saving to go back this coming June. you can pre book a deep sea trip or book it once you get there.

Loved excellence playa...iit was 80% full when we went and it seemed like 20%. Felt safe and had excellent service

Also, I am searching for somewhere down there to do some guided fly fishing, my Travel agent sent me this link. she said the people she had talked to about this service had tremendous things to say about them. Then also do other fishing, not just fly. They seem to have pretty decent prices.

HOw long do you have? If you can swing it I'd go for Costa Rica, you have a huge variety there. The arenal volcano area, the great beaches, incredible fishing, etc.

+1 on Costa Rica. We spent 4 nights in the rain forest next to Arenal Volcano and then 3 nights on the beach in Tamarindo. Tons of activities to do including deep sea fishing, zip lining, booze cruise, snorkeling, horseback riding to the waterfalls, mud baths, and white water rafting.

I'll add to the Costa Rica recommendations, specifically the Pacuare Lodge. It is not the beach, it is in the rain forest along the Pacuare River. You raft in and out. Even if you drive in w/ 4x4s (if the river is too high) the only way into the actual place is across the river via a gondola. Very remote, no power to the cabins, very natural. Check out their website and read about it. If you go, spring for the honeymoon suite called the Jaguar iirc because it has a propane heater that gives you hot water even if it is cloudy (the other cabins are on solar). The place is amazing, surrounded by birds and wildlife all the time, and the food is remarkable considering everything comes in by raft.

You shouldn't stay more than 3 nights there. Work it into a longer trip to other parts like Arenal, the beach, etc.

We went to Antigua and absolutely loved it! Our second choice was St. Lucia. We used an amazing travel agent that got us extra perks for free. Let me know if you want her info!!

Cabo San Lucas

If you don't want to use a passport we did Key West and loved it. You can fish the mangroves, bay, or offshore. Throw in snorkeling and the night life on Duval and good food and the Mrs. will be happy.

amaggie, I'm looking at Antigua as well and would be interested on going through an agent. I just want someone to coordinate using the FF miles effectively.

I don't know where you are located, but the travel agent that does our stuff is great if you are in the Austin area.

Boracay in terms of beach, and atmosphere can't be beat. The sand is so fine that it squeeks when you walk on it. And they have a bar staffed by midgets (The Hobbit House).

Palawan is a bit tougher, but worth it. Spent a week in El Nido. Paradise.

Also can do some sweet bill fishing off ****et. Y'all can do the villa thing. Private pool, staff, etc.

We recently did the RIU in Costa Rica. It's all inclusive and really nice. I wouldn't recommend spending your entire time there, but worth a couple days.

I'm boring. We just did Hawaii, and stayed on Oahu.

For your money, I think Costa Rica might be a good bet to find everything you want a good price. When I was planning mine, I got down to Costa Rica and Turks and Caicos, and went with T&C based on beach and prettier water. However; it was more expensive over all.

Edit: If you're really looking for the private pool, I did remember seeing a lot of resorts in Costa Rica that were really nice and offered private pools.

KBV got it right. Excellence resorts were really nice. The farther out you book, the more of a discount you can get.
