I need a recommendation for a set of hair clippers to use to cut my son's hair. Right now I pay $10 to cut his hair, but we literally just buzz it, so I figure I can handle this. I've only ever clipped a show calf, but it can't be that different, right?

Bought a $30 pair of Wahl's at Wal-mart over a year ago. Does my hair and my son's and is still going strong.

Has all the guards and is very easy to use.

How long ago did you clip that calf?? I obviously wouldn't use the old Sunbeams w sheep heads on them, but the new Andis 2 and 5 speeds are the same ones some barbers use.

It's been 15 years since I clipped my steers and those are the heavy duty, huge clippers. No way those are going near my son's head! Just the sound would send him running.

I saw a set of Wahl's on Amazon for $20...just wondering if those will do the trick or if you've had better luck with a different set.

I have been buzzing my own hair for 5 years now. There is a pair of ConAir clippers at Wal-Mart for about $10 that has lasted me almost 3 years now. Don't get the set that has all the bells and whistles from ConAir though. The set it comes with is nice, but the clippers are subpar. I bought this set the first time and it broke halfway through a hair cut. The smaller set that costs about the same has a MUCH higher quality set of clippers and it comes with enough guards to get the job done.

Yes, those will work. I have a 15yo Wahl Clipper; you need to clean and oil after each use.

My old man bought me a set of these

for my Thirteenth birthday. I was a bit of a bovine beautician back in the day. Hell, I still clip for Dad's sale every year if I get in early enough before sale day.

Wal-Mart and target both carry Wahl clippers that come as a set (with guards) for about $26. Bought the set 6 years ago and still cut one son's hair plus mine.

+1 on the Wahls. Worth the $30. I cut both of my sons' and my husband with them and never had any trouble.

I would strongly urge you to get a decent pair. Almost everything at Walmart is not really decent if you are going to us it regularly. The motors won't wear out but the blades that they use on consumer grade clippers are usually crappy. I did have a set of Wahl Powerdrive clippers that I bought at the PX that turned out to be pretty good but they were the exception. You don't need to go top of the line with Oster Calssic 76 or Andis BGRC but do get something better than consumer grade. I have used an Oster Fast Feed for several years and is has performed flawlessly. The Cryogen blades are very sharp and the motor is powerful enough that you can cut thick hair realtively quickly (as the name implies feeding it into the blades fast) and it will not pull. Whatever you do, don't get a set of cordless rechargeable clippers unless it is one of the high-end models. Cordless clippers are like cordless drills: Li-Ion or nothing.
