Also posted on AO.

So the wife and I are buying a house. We love it, but the bermuda has been overtaken by dallisgrass in a bad way.

In the front the bermuda is pretty solid in some places, but there is a lot of dallisgrass that would need to be dealt with. The side and back yard there is probably more dallisgrass than bermuda.

What's the best way to fight such a heavy infestation?

Best? Kill everything, rip it up, and Re-sod.

Unless you want to just kill off the Dallis with Roundup and wait for theBermuda to crawl that way or re-seed

Repeat applications of MSMA two weeks apart.

Assuming you don't have any MSMA, since it has been banned and you can't buy it anymore:

Thoroughly wet the ground around each dallisgrass clump. Then pull it up by the roots. It comes up very easy if the ground is wet.

You can also spot treat with Roundup, but then you will have bare/dead spots for the rest of the year. I spot treated a couple of places in early spring this year with normal Roundup, and the bermuda still hasn't grown over them.

If it were me, I would pull it out by hand in the less heavily infested areas and then spot treat with roundup on the more heavy areas. The places you spray won't look great for a while, but compared to most peoples' places, it will look nuch better.
