Help please.

Crystal beach is tough. Muddier surf, so you have bull reds. Use heavy gear, and cut mullet or decent sized live or fresh-dead croaker or similar for bait on a fair sized hook. There are trout in there, and TONS of panfish.

I fish here a lot. With shrimp and poppin cork I have caught only hard heads.

With a surf rod thrown out as far as I can after wading out I have caught hard heads on mullet and blue crab.

When it come to fishing. I am the suck.

They've shown damn good results for bull reds. With my new gear, I'm hoping to learn a thing or two this year.

Yeah. But I have 0 luck in the surf.

I've been surf fishing twice at crystal beach area. The first time when I got there I saw the biggest red fish in my life, 42". We ended up catching another one that was 45". I'd like to say I knew what was going on, but I really didn't.

I'll tell you the best I can. We were using rod holders about 40 feet apart. We caught mullet with a cast net and cut them in half to use for bait. There was a two foot leader, at the end was a circle hook and where the leader met main line there was a sand anchor(weight with little wires coming out that grabs into the sand). One guy had a kayak that we used to take the baits out. We went out past the second sandbar. Once we'd get the bait out someone would real it in until the sand anchor caught. Then we'd just wait.

Sorry for the taking a dump pose but we are killing them today... First ever surf catch was a double black tip hook ... Landed about 12 so far..

Eta....using cut Mullet on popping corks...

Sadly, no...

Have a house there and fish it every w/e almost. Get a kayak and go out at least 100 hundred yards and throw. Stingray will catch shark and mullet will get the reds. Get live shrimp if theres no mullet in the surf.

Hope those little pups went back in. There's a 1 shark bag limit, I believe, anyways.

I doubled up twice. And they all went back.

Why don't you make it fun like that one ole boy's bachelor party and have a hard head tournament?

So I have yet to catch anything but blue crabs in the trap.

I am going to have to try the kayak I guess tomorrow.

How heavy of a weight? Yesterday the seaweed was so bad in 15 minutes my bait was on shore in a best of weed.

The beer is cold though.

For fishing with bigger tackle, I use 4-12oz weights. But that is BIG tackle.

We waded out to the 2nd cut and just used poppers.

2nd cut, poppers and cut mullet.

2 black tip sharks this morning. It's a start I suppose.

Nice! Those might be spinner sharks. Blacktips don't have a black spot on their anal fin. Either way, I'm jealous.

Awesome....I am on daddy daycare this morning so I will hit it hard tomorrow. Locals were catching trout on plastics but I had no luck.

looking at tpwd.com I had the same thought.

Mine all have black tip on anal fin.

Local yocal told me me limited on trout with a silver spoon. Only way he ever fishes.

So I bought one at the Big Store to tryout.

keep the updates coming...I was down at rollover last weekend and caught nothing but piggies and croaker. Fished carolina rig with live finger mullet and live shrimp. Switched it up to a popping cork because of the seaweed, no luck on top either.

Noticed alot of kayaks in the surf driving into the pass, might need to invest in one I guess. Is the surf good year round?

I hear the surf is best in the warm/hot months, but like I said above I'm a novice to surf fishing and thats what I was told by more experienced friends I fished with.
