For the last several weeks all my 3.5 yr old daughter has talked about is going fishing, cooking her catch and eating them. We currently live in Fairfield and I would love to find a pond nearby with some smaller fish that she can catch and eat (perch, crappie, etc...). Anyone know of any place in the area with fish that are safe to eat?

You are welcome to fish in my pond. Bass, catfish, and perch are plentiful. I live in Angleton.

Thanks DVM. May take you up on the offer if I can't find anything closer to the house.

Near my old haunts. Any permanent neighborhood ponds will have sunfish in them. Flood control ditches and creeks that don't run dry as well. There aren't a lot of public parks out Fairfield way that have ponds on them, hence a lot of my pond fishing as a teenager involved hopping fences.

I've got a book somewhere that has a whole bunch of bank fishing spots in the houston area. I'll try to find it.

We killed the crappie in Lakes of Fairhaven on Saturday. The ponds in Fairfield have plenty of catfish and bream in them.

These urban parks are stocked by TPWD with catfish & rainbow trout (winter only):

Troutslime - which ponds in Fairhaven? All the ones I have seen in Fairfield have no fishing signs. Does Fairhaven as well?

"No fishing signs". Old fogeys on your HOA.

But, they might have a point: If you don't post them, you'll have human debris fishing in them that will trash up the banks.

The ponds on the left as you cross the creek . The pond closest to the water plant has been the best, but they all have fish in them and they are not posted.

Mitchell Lake off 249 used to be a great spot, but they bulldozed it to build the Vintage. But hey, we got a wine bar and a Starbucks out of the deal.

Mitchell Lake? I thought that was called Marshall Lake and I thought they left most of it.

I can't imagine being able to fill that thing in and lose the wetlands/flood mitigation so close to Cypress Creek.

You can catch a catfish pretty much every cast in Rockcreek. There are some good bass in there as well
