you guys know more than the travel board. Is there any decent tex-mex on the riverwalk? I'll be at the Gunter for NYE and want to feed the wife something better than what we have in Tulsa (which isn't hard to do).

TIA

Honestly...no. Go to the San Antonio board. They'll give you a ton of suggestions.

Although many of my SA friends write it off as a tourist trap, my favorite place on the Riverwalk is Casa Rio http://www.casa-rio.com/

The food is always good, and they are reasonably priced. You can choose between eating inside our outside next to the river. I still go there a few times a year.

Not really A texmex restaurant but I really enjoyed the guacamole at boudro's. A Texas bistro or something, they come make it in front if you, we went and ate Mexican just across the river from boudro's and it was good just can't for the life of me remember the name, maybe rio?

Walk west to el mercado and go to Mi Tierra's.

I didn't like casa rio. I really liked Guadalajara Grill... isn't on the River Walk, but not far.

I can also recommend Matamoros at I10 & DeZavala as very good eats if you want something outside of tourist trap-ville.

This if you are intent on staying in that area. If you don't mind driving La Fogata and Los Barrios are both excellent.

Ate at Cafe Ole recently (we were in a hurry and it was close). It was ok. I'm sure there is better.

+1 La Fogoda. Just had it over the weekend. Amazing as usual.

Ummm, stay away from Matamoros. It was CLOSED DOWN by the city due to health violations. It's open again, but I wouldn't chance it.

I live maybe a mile from there.

La Fogata and Los Barios are good but IMO Paloma Blanca is great. Also, breakfast at Tommy's Restraunt, there's 3 in SA, is phenomenal!

Dont waste your money or time at Mi Terras, the last time I had it was in October I thought after I should have saved my money and just gone to Taco bell.

Second for Mexican Manhattan. Aggie owned, too. My favorite is Rosarios, though, and its about a ten minute walk from the river. Well worth it. I also highly recommend La Gloria. It's at the Pearl Brewery section of the Riverwalk. It's a little over hyped but is different and very good.

I second Rosarios. Its one of my favorites but it is off the river walk.

Go to Rosarios jsut south about 4-5 blocks. The Mexican Food on the Riverwalk leaves ALOT to be desired.

Head south a few blocks and go to Rosario's or El Mirador. Food on the river walk is not that good/great. Boudros and Biga on the Banks are probably the best IMO.

Casa Rio is my fav ON the riverwalk. Sure there is better in and around town but they are not on the riverwalk. Casa Rio isn't bad texmex either. I actually prefer the food and selection to mi tierra but mi tierra is an experience in itself. (our Xmas eve tradition)

Another recommendation for Mexican Manhattan
and to avoid Matamoros-made all five family members sick on the same visit.

If you really want good Mexican food in SA you need to sneak over to Don Pedro's

Staying at the gunter, and if your primarily looking for just Tex-mex on the riverwalk, then old army gave you the best advice, mexican manhattan and casa rio. I would probably add rio rio cantina to that list as well. If you want to experience a broader selection of mexican fare, try the acenar which is right down the street from your location. Off the riverwalk, rosario's is the best, just south of downtown, la gloria is at the pearl brewery on the north end of the riverwalk-you can reach it by cab or on the river barge. The food is not your typical tex-mex food, but is very good. Check their online menus.

Rio Rio is amazing. Best enchiladas I have had in quite a while. Also try the "horny" margarita it is very good as well. You will not be disappointed
