T-minus 20 days until the season starts and I’m getting excited to take a few days off of work and get some gun time in. In addition to picking up a new bird killing machine (A400 Xplor) recently, I’ve decided that I’m going to treat myself to some new gear. Not that you need a whole lot to go shoot birds in a field, but what are your favorite pieces of gear to take with you on a dove hunt (besides a retriever – I have an 11 week old at home that I’m working on).

My top items from years past:
Bucket with padded swivel top and shoulder strap to tote beer and/or gear
Good pair of tinted shooting glasses (I like the nemesis ansi z87 glasses)
Wide-brimmed, safari style hat

Based on a whole wall in the FW Cabela's I'd say 100 Mojo's.

-shotgun of choice
-swivel stool [good for storage and, in an unexpected emergency last year, i had to line it w/ a trash bag and take a sh*t in it...not a bad toilet]
-bird/shell bag [belt]
-cooler full of beer
-jorts and a homemade tank top

The swivel stool is popular, but I can't shoot for sh*t sitting down. I still bring a bucket, but use it to throw empty shells, birds, and cans to haul back to truck. As for clothes, I won't hit the field without snake boots. One close call a few years back and I bought Chippewa's. Can't believe season is almost here!

Shotgun and a tree to sit under. Anything else is overkill.

Don't need it. A stick and a mud hole is all you need to get your limit this year.

I think wadd got it. Although a roll of tp is always a solid extra. Just got tired of having to buy new socks and tshirts after hunting sometimes.

i would not survive without the around the waist shell and dead bird bags attatched to suspenders. and a mojo. and ags on the radio.

Texas does have some nice alternative toilet paper, so did Kansas in most spots.

Truth be told, I actually had a roll from the diner that morning stuffed in my jacket. Unfortunately, it didn't last nearly long enough. I will say, brome wasn't have bad. Frozen wheat stalks, not so cool.

We don't take much, mainly the truck, ice chest, gun and dogs. The only things extra we have to take are:

*tranquilizers for the gun shy dog
*pump sprayer to cool down the other 2 dogs

and I take my bathing suit to sit in the pool with the sedated dog while watching those idiots shoot birds in the heat 50 or so yards from me

Instead of the mojo, I'm going to put out a dog bowl of water in the middle of the burnt grass field and watch them flock to it.

In all honesty all of the things everyone has said have been spot on, but there are three things I've started putting in my truck to make the process easier.

1. Igloo cooler filled with water. For washing hands after cleaning birds
2. Ziploc's. For keeping birds after cleaning.
3. I've seen people take plastic surgeons gloves for cleaning birds. You can say what you want, but its a pretty genius move.
4. Wet wipes. For after cleaning birds, or if TP just doesn't quite do the trick.
