Ok, so what kind work the best? Thoughts? I would like to get a light (lbs) set that are easy to carry and set up in a hurry but offer good support. Open to suggestions thanks!
I bought a Primos Trigger Stick monopod last year and love it. I carry it with me on hunts where I'm walking or hunting ground blinds. It doubles as a walking stick. They make a bipod version that is even more steady for shooting.
...picked up a set of these at the Houston Hunter's show yesterday. Obviously I haven't tried them in the field yet but it's a good concept and my "house trial" went well.
Thanks for the info guys, I will see if I can find some in the few stores I have around me, and who knows maybe I can find a deer to try them on this weekend! CA opening weekend is coming up.
I've used a lot of things in a pinch. Sotol, downed limbs, etc.
I have a StonyPoint monopod now. I like it because it works as a walking stick, camera monopod (threaded top) or shooting stick. Not super steady for loooooong range shooting, but pretty nice.
Only way I can get comfy for really long shots (500+ for me) is a small stock mounted bipod and a prone position. ...absent a really nice solid seated shooting rest of course.
