I have had every brand of wet wading shoes left at our place over the years. To me there are several different types. Probably the most common I see are the yellowish Orvis boots. Lots of places sell them or knock offs. From time to time someone leaves a pair of the really thin kayak shoe....but not often. They offer very little to no protection.

I normally wade in very clear water....maybe knee deep. Some people wear Keens...more wear the Orvis brand. Very hard sole and fit pretty tight. Neither are going to be worth a flip on soft bottoms.

I have one friend that won't help launch the boat unless he is wearing a pair of Ray-Guards. Very protective but the heaviest most uncomfortable I've ever worn.

The best to me are Marlwalkers by Patagonia. They last and are very comfortable.

Second on C-pole's suggestion!
I've got the Marlwalkers and they are as essential to success as copper/vermillion lenses in your sunglasses!

yes, maybe I will try one of my old pair of basketball shoes. They are in the garbage pile anyway.

$20 neoprene wader boots from Academy.

If you are worried about rays, but the armored boots, plus the $35 calf guards. I own the all-in one, but the problem is you often wear them wet and dry wading, and the wader footies make your boots too loose, if too big, or too tight if too small, when you decided to wear waders or not.

You really need two sizes of boot, one for waters, and one for bare feet.

Also, I recommend getting some pairs of those really long nylon soccer shinguard socks for using with waders. They don't bunch up, or fall down your leg into the foot, and make it considerably more comfortable.

Sometimes you have to wonder how our parents and grand parents ever caught fish in the bays without $100 reef boots, $500 GPS units, 24 foot boats that run in 4 inches of water or any of the other things that a lot people deem as necessary equipment these days.

Someone *****ing on an internet message board about the use of technology. Irony, oh how I love thee.

How about a $1000 pole that sticks in the bottom and replaces a willow pole and a rope?
