Who has two thumbs and still prefers mono over braid and fluorocarbon?

Me that's who...

Never been a fan of the way of fluoro handles. Not very castable and it tends to get kinked and weak places if you backlash it (yeah, I know, then don't backlash, well **** happens).

Braid I do like for 2 things, frogs and the mainline for a carolina rig. That's it...

On every other technique for bass fishing I actually prefer mono. I like the forgiveness and the fact that it stretches. I've never seen a big advantage of the "refractive index" of fluoro vs. mono either. And besides, it's cheap. I can keep ALL my reels spooled for 2 months for what a spool of fluoro or braid cost to spool 2.

trick is you put braid on a reel and fish with it for two or three years versus a few months.

If you want stretch in braid, run a nice flouro or mono leader. you only need a couple of feet to get the same basic effect. come tie into a nice bull red on that little reel and see how much you like the extra line strength and line capacity

Do not back lash with braid.

I also like braid for Texas rig in heavy cover.

I like fluoro for other Texas rigs, jigs, and weightless worms.

Everything else is mono, especially any jerk or crankbaits.

I LOVE braid. The backlashes pull out so much easier because it doesn't strech, and you can use more force. The problem is when you get a genuine knot pulled tight, you can't pick it apart.

Braid has to be many times before it starts to "settle" and loose its stiffness. That's when I like it.

Granted, I only use it for saltwater, where I am worried about abrasion on oyster and barnacles and where I'm heavier on the drag. It's a line capacity issue when you're fishing for something that very well could make a 150 yard run on you.

+1 Mouth on backlashes. I find they are much easier to pick with braid. I've been using Power Pro for a while based on the recs I've seen on here and love it. My only real complaint is the occasional dig in where the lure will just stop mid cast because the line is buried in itself.

Been fishing with mono from the beginning and haven't seen a reason to stop yet. Still the best.

If you've ever had a 100lb blacktip on your Citica, you will know that 40lb braid is your friend.

This pisses me off. Overall I'm not really a fan of braid at all. Jury is still out for me on the flouro.

That won't happen if you've got it spooled correctly.

I'm with Mouth on this. I love braid for the salt. I just use about a 4' leader of flouro.

I am still in the process of deciding between braid and mono. I don't know if any of y'all do this, and it may sound silly. But right now I have mono as a backing and about 100yds of braid. I figure it isn't very likely for the trout, reds, and flounder to take 100yds of line and it saves me money.

No, 14lb. mono would be my friend in that case. I would cut or let the shark cut the line so I wouldn't have to deal with a 100lb blacktip.

Braid with a flouro carbon leader. I tried to fish with a mono filled reel recently and it was NOT fun. Once braid gets "loose" it is awesome and lasts years on a reel!

tx4guns likes mono because he fishes with a Zebco 404!

I use braided for what I call kingfish rods but I only go to #20 because going to a higher breaking strength is a waste because the reels or rods are not capable of handling a higher drag.

Several years ago my fishing buddy and I decided to try braided. I normally use #8 Magnathin. We went to something like a #4 equivalent diameter.....maybe smaller. It ate us both alive with twists and wind knots. I switched back that day. He keep tinkering with it and I think he uses something like #14 test now. On our last fishing trip he reeled his barrel swivel though the tip and cast.....not the first time either. It took the hardloy insert with it.
It was a rod I built for him out of a 9'6" fly rod blank. Upon inspection we discovered that every single guide was grooved. I replaced all of them and sent it back....He did say Thanks.

Flouro is the way of the future; however, I use all three on different set-ups. Thick ass mono pisses me off though.

I prefer braid for jetty trips and throwing lures in cold water. Other than that, I still prefer mono, even the super stretch Stren. I think that when throwing topwaters, the delay to hook penetration can be a benefit, especially that first stop in the morning when you know it is going to be an epic session. I still get jumpy and can get a little quick with the hookset.

I'm a mono fan, Stren Original to be exact. I used Seaguar flouro for my leaders. Like somesome said, why change when you've never had a problem with mono. Thread belongs on your wife or grandma's sewing machine, not your fishing reel.
