He just got his CFII and all his endorsments from Robinson. I think my parents said it was as expensive as my 4.5 years at TAMU. he did it in under a year and a half. But that was his full time job.
My brother learned to fly helicopters for free. During the Vietnam War, the Army (actually an Army contractor, I think) would hire fixed wing pilots and train them to fly helicopters so that they could then be instructors to the Army.

I just asked him about the 2 hour solo. Turns out I was wrong -- it was at 3 1/4 hours that he soloed.

Also, that was from a grass strip.

"flying isn't inherently dangerous but it's incredibly unforgiving of any carelessness or neglect."

I'm trying to convince the Air Force to let me fly some fun planes right now. I'm working on my OTS package right now. I have pretty much everything done, except waiting on some medical paperwork and I have my interview with a Lt. Col this weekend.

My son trained the gentleman on the right. He'll be going up for his 2nd space shuttle flight on the next launch.
