we had them in the tanks on our lease in Tilden. you can find them all over South Texas...not just near the coast

We might have been on the same ranch before. Me, not a lease hunter but just a guest. There was a legitimate +12 footer in one of the tanks for a while.

I saw what was supposedly a 16' gator kill a 10' gator over a marshmallow on an airboat tour in Louisiana.

The guide about **** himself. and decided it was time to go before anyone took amy photos of the dead gator. I'm also pretty sure the 16' was appropriately named Hercules and only had one eye.

This would be a spectacle.

As to alligators around Rockport and Aransas pass, there are 3 that used to hang at a spot in st Charles bay and you could go over there and pretty much always see at least one of them. Haven't been up in there in a while but I assume there still there.

Coordinates for anybody wanting to go check them out: 28.2005 / -96.9211
Report back if you see one.

Also had some buddies from Baytown who brought a one footer back to their bathtub at A&M. It was the highlight of the party. They then proceded to let it loose in Somerville.

I don't condone any of this, nor was I a part of any of it.

Edited for further details and clarification.

We had a hurricane party when I was in college and some guys from LA had brought one up. I didn't really condone it either but it was def a highlight of the party. We even got some drunk ******* to let it bite his arm. I have a pic of this. I'll see if i can find it.

Yup. We used to see them all the way out in Cedar Bayou while wade fishing.

lol....I remember getting through with a wade in cedar bayou, getting in the boat and going maybe two hundred yards and there was a 8-9 footer swimming around. I've often wondered what in the hell I'd do if i was on a wade and one's head popped up next to me.

There was a 10 footer in a cove on Richland Chambers. It had a nest one year.

This was 10 years ago or so.

That is pretty much what happened to me. I turned to look around and I saw his head about 20 yards away. I slowly worked my way back to the boat and stayed in it after that...LOL. Don't know how big it actually was, but it wasn't a small head.

Planning to spend some time this summer and fall scouting Nails Creek and Sommerville for some good duck hunting spots. I was wondering if you knew about the gator situation out there? I bring the ole swamp collie with me everywhere I go but have been told not to take him to Sommerville till after the first freeze. Thoughts?

I don't know if you've got to wait until the first freeze but I definitely wouldn't have a dog out there during teal season.

I'm not sure why people are surprised but gators are relatively common in every part of Texas east of about I-35 as long as there's plenty of water.

I assume you may know this but the inches from eyes to nose will give you a rough estimate to how many feet. Does not always hold exactly true though.

We had one in one of the tanks we dove hunt at our ranch in Live Oak County in the 90s. Not far from Lake CC, which has a bunch of them.

Disappeared one day and never did find out what happened to him. Never did find out.....

We have them frequently in our neighborhood lakes on the Upper East Side(tm) of Houston. People lose their flipping minds over them too.

They just captured and relocated a 2-footer a week or so ago and some lady today was on the Nextdoor/FB pages wondering if it was safe for her to walk around the lake, "especially with what happened at Disney."

I did my graduate research basically in a triangle of Mathis/Sinton/Woodsboro. It was pretty well assumed there was a gator in every water body (on the Welder Wildlife Refuge, that very much was the case). Keep in mind they generally aren't that big a deal to livestock because even if they do say snatch a calf, they may not be inclined to eat again for dang near a year. I initially though it was a great plan to feed my trapped hogs to the gators. After two pigs dropped off, it was a bit disconcerning when they would start approaching the truck from simply driving nearby. But then we also noticed after 2 moderate sized pigs (and often just 1), they just left the carcasses alone. Dropping off pig carcasses under the vulture roosts worked so much better (like 48 hours might be a long time until an entire carcass disappeared).
