Gato Roberto. There should be a looooooong tail behind an Aoudad.

if there is some unknown species of miniture cougar that grows to the size of a house cat, then yes, that's a cougar.

If I understand what an Audad is, I don't see how that could be one.

feral cat.

Hair appears too short to be a house cat. It almost appears to have spots like a jaguar but it's hard to tell for sure.

Could be a cougar but then again it could be a Grizzly, but I'd say the smart money is Bobcat.

FYI: cougars in East Texas were called Panthers. As in Lufkin Panthers. My dad remembered them as common in the 30's and also a few bears. Not sure if there is a native population left of either. Supposedly most sightings are strays from Louisiana.

Their range is the very far south tip of TX, barely extending over the Rio and into the Valley.

I've seen one in Northeast Texas (Red River County) several times. The first time I saw it was sitting on my deer stand. I shot at it out of curiosity. About 20 minutes later I got down and went to look for a blood trail. About the time I realized there wasn't a blood trail I looked over and he was sitting in some thick brush on the edge of the woods 10-15 feet from me. Looking straight at me. I pulled up my .270 and aimed it at him and he turned around and high tailed it out of there. We saw him the next day as he was running away from us in front of the four wheeler. This was grayish brown and not black. Its been spotted by other people on the lease as well. They have an surprisingly long tail and you would definitely see it in that pic. I've seen bobcats from my stand there too and if you've seen both in person, then you know how easy they are to tell apart. They are also much taller than that creature in your picture. My guess would be that its a grey fox or a small bobcat.

Wait a mountain lion in Red River county that wasn't black, blasphemy The occasional bear and mountain lion makes that some neat country.

I assume you saw the pic of the black fox near Rockdale that were going around among your colleagues the other day ursus? Pretty cool looking animal...

c'mon guys. It's a bobcat. Look at the pic. It's WAY too small to be a lion. It's colored like a bobcat. the snout is too short to be a fox (not to mention the pattern on the coat). I suppose it could be a feral cat. But the magic eight ball says bobcat.

These threads remind me of why sailors would report seeing mermaids and sea monsters. beacuse they wanted to.

The words East Texas and cougars should not be used in the same sentence.

Perhaps not "cougars" but there are tons of M.I.L.Fs running around East Texas. Especially some of the areas around Tyler with more money. Lot's of hot East Texas chicks who work hard to keep themselves looking good for the husband.
