Looked through the TPWD web site and appears that they are very generous to active duty military personnel who are Texas residents. If I'm reading the regs correctly, that includes free licenses for residents.

I can't find anything similar for active duty non-residents. Do they get any kind of break that I'm not finding, or no they not get any consideration?

Have a guy from that AF technical school in Colorado Springs who wants to eliminate a few ducks and geese over MLK weekend. Looks like the cheapest option is the 5-day pass?

Not complaining, just looking to save a few bucks if anyone knows of a way.

The way I read the regulations, if you are active duty military and your home of record or duty station for the past 6 months is in Texas, then you can get a SUPER COMBO license for free.

quote:
Texas Resident Active Duty Military “Super Combo” Hunting and All-Water Fishing Package (Type 510): FREE
Available to any Texas resident on active duty in the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Reserves or National or State Guard. Includes all five state stamp endorsements (archery, freshwater fishing, migratory game bird, saltwater fishing with a red drum tag, and upland game bird). The Federal Waterfowl Stamp is not included. Proof of residency for this license is: military service record(s) indicating that the person’s home of record is in Texas or that the person’s duty station for the six months immediately prior to the time of application is in Texas.

If you are active duty, but not stationed in Texas for the past 6 months, then you can purchase a license as a RESIDENT. A SUPER COMBO for active duty military not stationed in Texas then becomes only $68 instead of $315 (plus stamps depending on what you will be hunting).

quote:
A RESIDENT is a person who has lived continuously in Texas for more than 6 months immediately before applying for a license. Members of the United States Armed Forces (and their dependents) on active duty anywhere are entitled to purchase a resident license.

Whoa, thanks. Exactly what I was looking for. Missed it in my quick scan.

I'm not a duck hunter, so I don't know what extra stamps you need to get for them, if any. You might find that a RESIDENT HUNTING license for $25, plus duck stamps, may be what you are looking for.

BTW, you weren't in Hale County for pheasant, were you? Some FBI types were hunting on my family's land.

Damn. Wish I knew that before I bought mine! What do you need as proof? A CAC card, orders? At least I know for next year.

AgNav93,

I went with my BIL last year when he was active and all he needed was his military ID. He's a native Texan and was stationed in KS.

No, must have been some other G-Men.

I wish I knew too! My active duty daughter (stationed in WA) was in town for Christmas. She called the TPWD and they told her she could purchase a RESIDENT license. They didn't mention the part about a free super combo if she would just show them her Texas drivers license. I didn't mind paying for the license until I found out that it should have been free. But, like you said, I'll know better next time.

My Army Reserve son just picked up a free one at Academy. They didn't ask if he was active duty; he just flashed his ID card.
