Feel like an idiot, but don't know know how to turn off water main at house in Richardson.

In Dallas you have the water meter attached to the water main. You use a key to get to the underground meter/main and use a wrench to turn the valve.

Here in Richardson, I have an electric water meter that is underground, but I see no associated visible way to turn the water off near or with the water meter.

Serious manhood fail here, need some help. Google hasn't helped me yet.

(I'd ask a neighbor but it is late, and not an emergency).

More than likely there is a little brass valve in the box with the meter. If the leak is in the house shut the water off at the house.

Is this is? The open pipe at the top of the pic actually has visible running water in a pipe below it, which is somewhat worrisome. I wonder if that is the sewage line. The one with the cap, is that the water main line? If so, how to turn it off? Turn that top thing clockwise?

Alright somebody dial 91 when he gets the wrench.

Please oh PLEASE tell the 911 dispatcher you took advice from a message board on how to do it when they have to respond...

It might not be in your yard. In some cities it can be down the block. I ran into this problem in cedar park recently.

Yeah, that pic above definitely looks like a clean out drain for your sewer.

Just curious, where at in Richardson? I'm near Plano and Campbell

It will be in there. It's brass slot about 1 inch long. Probably buried under those leaves or inch of dirt. It will be between meter (thingy with numbers) and house.

I'm with Mark....If your picture is near the house I'd say it's sewer related.
I would guess that your water meter will be in what's called a buffalo box....plastic...usually has some sort of tread plate top.....approx 12x20" or so...near the curb.
As birdman described it will look like this inside. Ask a neighbor.
Eliminate the negative crap you litter the board with from time to time and you might get more people to help you.

thanks for the hate/help. Some of you think because you have been hunting all your lives, that you know more about hunting than me, just because I have never been! Or know more about archery when your mastery of googled articleson archery is just a fraction of my mastery!

I live a few miles away from you Big Ben.

Maybe you need to spend less time on archery google mastery and a little more on water main google mastery.

You probably have a shutoff valve where your waterline enters your house slab. They are usually in a Pvc pipe in your front flower bed. You should also have a valve on your water meter bracket.

I don't know if I have a shutoff next to the house. But there was one buried by the meter.

I also live and Richardson and my shut off looks like the one Sunchaser posted. The city will actually come cut it off/on for you if you call them.
