Very good friend of mine (Sqd. 6 mid to late 80's) has a high fenced place in South Texas. White Tail, Oryx, Black Buck and Axis and he has a small herd of about 12-15 longhorns that his dad had as a kind of gimmick.
For the past 15 years or so they have only sold 6 or 7 hunts per year and the same one family out of NYC has bought nearly 100% of them.
Last year the oldest member of the family told the manager that he already has everything he ever wanted as far as game except for one little thing ...... a Texas longhorn. he proceeds to hem and haw before just asking straight up if he could whack a longhorn to be mounted. Ranch hands could have the meat.
Ranch owner tells him that they have already all been taken off of that ranch and are now 30 miles away at another pasture and about to be sold out in a longhorn cattle auction. Hunter asks if for $5,000 will they pick out one with the biggest horns and haul it back to the ranch and turn it out to be hunted? Owner says "Sure! What color you like?"
A few weeks later, he came down with 3 or 4 other family members, whacks the longhorn and they took some other game animals, paid the total and flew back to NYC. Happy campers.
Free market capitalism at its best.
