I live in St. Louis but will be in Fredericksburg over Thanksgiving where hopefully I will shoot a doe. What precautions or steps do I need to take in order to bring the deer meat back with me to St. Louis?

I think you should be fine as long as you keep the meat, tag, & proof of sex together.

At most you would have to debone it. Check with you home state though.

I'd check your local Missouri regs. Many states in the midwest prohibit transportation, or limit it due to CWD.

Yep. Many states require the head (as proof of sex) to remain with the deer until final destination. Due to CWD scares in many of our bordering states, many states have outlawed transporting deer heads across state lines. Because so many people want to come into Kansas and hunt, and then transport deer back home they created an electronic registry so you can travel without the head.

If you are under 24-hour deadline, get an under-the-radar country music star to carry the cargo in a semi with a cool paint job. Owning a hound dog is optional.

You will then need your bandit. I recommend a black Trans-Am with a over-mustachioed driver and cowboy hat. He needs to run interference for the inept local cops. While he runs interference, it will be incumbent upon your rig driver to make fast time.

Be sure that both drivers are equipped with good chase music. Upon completing the trip, please try to avoid any sequels. They will suck.
