I've got a in-shore baitcaster and I want to remove the palm-side cover assembly to oil the spool and bearings, but there are no screws or obvious retainers to remove.

The brake dial does not rotate off but there is a notch at the bottom of the cover assembly. I used a small screwdriver to separate the cover from the frame, but no luck.

Any suggestions?

And unrelated, but #12 has arrived from the taxidermist and I'm going to pick him up this weekend; will post pics of him on the wall:

PS: dude on the left is a Hungarian I met at the camp in Wyoming who had just shot an elk, mule deer, & pronghorn, after returning from Alaska and BC where he took his sheep, moose and bear. He is doing 5 trips to N. America for all the NA big game for the book he's doing.

Not familiar with that reel, but I've got a Browning reel that has a push button to release the palm side. The button is not obvious, it's where the reel brand is stamped and doesn't push easily. Also, when the button is pressed, the palm side doesn't open up really easily, so it was difficult to know if I was doing things correctly. Good luck.

Nevermind....just saw baitcaster. An Australian company named Gladiator makes a Ocean Master series.

Ocean Master seems like a strange name for a baitcaster.....likewise a number like 20,30,50,80,130 makes me think offshore.

'Chaser, it's their in-shore reel.

Ocean Master is a Bass Pro brand, I think.

It comes with a short instruction sheet showing where to lubricate, but doesn't tell you how to get the cover off, just shows the innards. I'll look for Gladiator and see if they've got something related.

Thanks!

I doubt if it is a Gladiator after what you said.....if you can post a picture so I know which one to look for I'll stop by on one of my many ventures to Bass Pro & get them to show me.

Yeah, that's the exact same reel as my browning. It's a bps reel also. Press the button and twist the palm side. It will rotate off with a little work and hinge on the side nearest the butt. The button is where the brand is. You really gotta press it, but be careful because the little button is a lever supported by 2 springs. The first time I opened mine the springs went flying and I couldn't get them back in. I had to take it to BPS and they sent it off to put the springs back in. While there, they also replaced a bearing and cleaned it up for me!

you rock mbl!

that was it.

i overlooked that button b/c when i tinkered with it, the cover to the button came off in my hands and it just looked like a logo only.

really appreciate everyone's help.

here's a pick of our take back in july; my first time for bay fishing and i'm hooked:
