Oktoberfest beers are by far my favorite. I just wanted to get y'all's opinions on which ones are the best. So far, my ranking is:

1) Real Ale out of Blanco
2) Sam Adams
3) St. Arnold

Any other good ones out there (like someone mentioned in a separate thread, the Shiner Oktoberfest is just not that good).

Sam Adams Octoberfest and Great Lakes Oktoberfest are legit...

Great Lakes Brewing Co. is probably my favorite all-around brewery.

I don't think I've come across Great Lakes before. Can you get it at HEB or do you have to go to a large liquor store like Specs to find it?

The Sam Adams is just about my favorite beer ever.

Real Ale's hasn't made it to CS yet. Really wanting to try that one.

Spaten and Paulaner are good ones to try.

dave, Real Ale's Oktoberfest is in my opinion, the best, but be warned...a six pack of that stuff costs $9-10. However, Costco has cases of Sam Adams Oktoberfest on sale for about $22.

Considering I've paid $3.50 per bottle of their Sisyphus, I'm used to the cost. Love their beers. I saw some Devil's Backbone on the shelf the other day and should have grabbed it. Won't be around for awhile.

agreed, I love Real Ale's beers as well. In my opinion, hands down the best in the state. There's actually a place or two in the San Antonio area that carries it on tap.

Dear God if they carried that stuff on tap I'd be in trouble. A friend and I did the tour a few months ago. I think we had a few flights of the 5 they had on tap. Sisyphus being the last one.

Fireman's #4 is essentially my starter beer these days.

I am partial to the St Arnolds Oktoberfest. The Shiner isn't a bad beer, its just not what I typically think of when I want an oktoberfest.

the problem with the Sisyphus is you keep coming back for more and never seem to get satisfied.

And that 10% definitely adds up after a few.

It's good to see all the love for Real Ale Brewing. My buddies and I finished off the last of the draught Devil's Backbone at Billy's on Burnet a few weeks ago. Soon, It'll be a sad day when the last couple of bottles of the season are gone from my refrigerator. Real Ale's Oktoberfest is tasty, though. Hopefully, I'll find some of Live Oak's Oaktoberfest to try, soon.

St. Arnold's is definitely my favorite. I'm not a fan of many of the Sam Adams beers.

Haven't had Real Ale's Oktoberfest. I'll look for it.

Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly makes a beer an Octoberfest beer? Is it a specific style?
schmendeler

i don't know the exact criteria, but they tend to be malty, not super hoppy, with a higher alcohol content.

Grisswold,
I get Great Lakes up here in Ohio. Don't know if you can get it down south. The number of breweries up here makes Texas look like a dry county.

St Arnolds

There's a bunch more, that I can't think of. I love trying new ones.

For Texas beers, Live Oak Brewing Co. out of Austin produces some dang fine beers.... right up there with Real Ale imo. They have an excellent Octoberfest.
