How long do you want to ignore this user?
Hi,
I am getting ready to have the timber on a 100 acre property I own in East Texas near Jacksonville select cut. I plan to have most of the sawtimber cut and leave the smaller trees to grow. There is some pine and the rest is Hardwood. Has anyone had timber cut recently? I had one guy come look at the tract, but I am not sure if he is giving me a good price.Since I am not having it clearcut, the price paid is by the ton. Please let me know what prices you received if you have sold timber recently! Also, if you have any suggestions on additional items to add to check on a timber contract, I would appreciate your insight.
Thanks!

I would definately advise you to "hire" a forestry consultant. Their initial consultation is usually free. They normally charge %10 of your earning from the sale. They will inventory your timber and then distribute your sale out to a high number of bidders. This fact usally nets you the same or even more money than if you did it your self. In addition, they will make sure you dont get screwed on what timber the loggers actually take out; especially on a select cut harvest. I have seen it hundreds of times.....land owners like yourself get suckered out of thousands of dollars all the time if you are not well informed on the subject.

What area are you in? I may be able to recommend a couple of consultants.....or buyers if you dont want to go that route.
