I had sod laid a couple months ago. It is doing great now and the grass blades are about 5" tall and are very effective at hiding dogturds. I wanted to let it seed out before I mowed it. When can I expect this to happen?

St. Augustine seed are sterile. Mow away (at 3 - 3 1/2 inches)!

Yes I have seen that on the St A in my front lawn. I thought they were seeds. But I did not know they were sterile.

Augustine usually sends up "seedheads"when stressed. Rain does make things happy.

Well it definitely aint stressed right now. It is more like the Kobe Beef of the grass world as much attention as I have been paying to it! I found this quote on an article I found on Google though:

"As reported by Long and Bashaw at Texas A&M in 1961 only a few strains of St. Augustine grass are fertile. The common strain of St. Augustine grass found in Texas is generally fertile; whereas, the strains used in Florida since before 1900 were found to be sterile."

I'm sure when I get back from working out of town on Thursday I will be mowing it.
