Does anyone have any info on camping at the bend. I did not realize that all they have is primitive camping sites with no hookups. I'm all for it but the rib is not. Any suggestions on other places close by? Looks like the high on Sat/Sun would be low 90's

I have no idea as to where this park is, so I can't give a specific suggestion. However, you might look at the website that has federal campgrounds such as the US Army Corps of Engineers parks, of which there are many in TX. You can see pics of the campsites and find out exactly what types of hookups are available, and you can reserve specific sites through the website.

We use the campgrounds at Granger Lake (about 90 miles from C.S.) and have been happy with them. Most have a covered table on concrete pad, and water and electricity.

I'm at work right now, so I don't have the website, but you can practice your Google-fu and find it easily.

If you find a c/o 99 Aggie ring with about 7 years of moss on it, call me.

Inks Lake or Pedernales Falls, or perhaps South Llano.

Colorado bend has lots of shaded sites, so it might be warm, but it won't be too bad. just hike to one of the springs and sit in it all day.

Also, driving an RV down into the camping area is a little on the exciting side.

Been to Colorado Bend State Park many times. Its an excellent park. Check out Gorman Falls if you go - its worth the hike. Seen Sulfur Springs on the way in, but never stopped there. It looks nice though.

We stayed in one of the cabins at sulfur springs once. The river is shallow there but, it's a nice camp spot if you are fishing the park.

Thanks guys. It is just a little 8ft pop up. Any ideas on how long a car battery would keep the ac going if we needed it.

The AC is going to consume something like 1500 watts to 2000 watts, if it is a typical rooftop unit. That's running at 110V. The 12V battery wouldn't power that. You'd need a generator in the 2500-3000 watt category. Honda makes an excellent and very quiet 3000 watt inverter generator, but it runs $1800-$2000.

However, with an inverter and some fans in the shade, 90F is not bad at all, really. Body temp is still 98.6F, so you can feel cool even in the 90's so long as you get good heat dissipation.

We found two that are on the river very close to the park. Anybody ever stayed at Barefoot Campground ?

Ended up at Sulfur Springs Campground. We pulled through Barefoot and decided not to stay, too close together and not on the water. SS was a little more per night but well worth it. More private, sulfur water swimming pool, on the water, store, wireless internet up around the store, cabins and really nice staff.
Thanks for all of your input. We hiked to Gorman Falls and Gorman Sping (3.5 miles round trip). Next time we will ride our bikes in on the road (half a mile farther), not the hiking trail (very rocky) and then hike over to the Falls. It was a little rough with a 30lb weight on the back of the bike and then on to my shoulders after we ditched the bikes. Great Park!

Did you make it to the not so secret swimming hole at the park? It's still kind of secret if you go on a week day.

Tie Slide? Some of the locals told us about this and you can actually get to it from the Sulfur Springs Campground if this is what you are referring to? We rode our bikes as far as you could go in the campground and then hiked over to it. Quite impressive.

The swimming hole at Colorado Bend State Park. Just follow the trail down the river from the boat ramp at the end of the parking lot. It's really nice when you have it all to yourself but, lately it's packed on the weekends.

The wife and I found it by accident while hiking. You basically walk down to the end of the park along the river, then take a right and follow the creek there up to the hole.

You guys talking about the one up around the north end of the park near Gorman Falls or one down by the state park's campground (south end)?

South.
