As I sit on my couch drinking beer every evening, I can see this really bright star out one of the upper windows in my house. I don't think it's a star because it doesn't twinkle. It also seems to move east to west slightly faster than the earth is spinning, but not anywhere near as fast as a satellite. It's in about the same spot relative to the horizon each evening (+30 degrees at 8:30), and seems to be ever so slightly further north each night.

Anybody know what this is?

Space station?
DeathStar?
The Chinese?

Should I put on my foil hat?

Just read your description more carefully, it probably is Venus you're seeing.

Sirius is the brightest star in the western sky, though.

Awesome link, MeAg. I live on the north side of DFW, so I can't see any of Orion now to confirm it's Venus. I've been searching satellite tracking sites with no luck. Thanks for the link.

Its most likely Venus. Venus is the brightest object in the sky after Moon and Sun.

A good way to know is to observe whether or not it twinkles. Venus wont twinkle as stars will.

Definitely does not twinkle.

Wasn't there talk a few years ago that the international space station put up some solar panels that reflected the sun and made it one of the brightest objects in the sky?

How can I find the space station at night? Is it visible, or is the guy that told me that full of it?
