just curious, as a Kali resident, can I buy handguns, rifles or shotguns in TX? If I take possession here in kommiefornia, it has to be through a licensed dealer but can I purchase various weapons and take possession in other states, then drive them back and whatever big brother doesn't know won't hurt him?

PS- regarding through a FFL dealer, that may be only for handguns, I'm not sure.

In my experience out of state residents can only buy long guns. But that was a Texas resident buying in Louisiana.

i was able to buy a shotgun and a rifle in iowa with my texas drivers license...

the salesman actually laughed and said "oh, texas huh? Do they still let you drink, drive, and carry a shotgun in your truck?"

not necessarily the comment i wouldve made, but he did none the less

I'm in Florida. I tried to buy a handgun (in Texas) back in December 08 and the salesman wouldn't let me buy it... had to get my Dad to sign the paperwork...

edit for vagueness...

handguns:

you can only purchase a handgun in the state you are a resident of

long guns:

some states have different laws and restrictions regarding residents of there state.there are some states that a Texas ffl cant transfer a long gun to.

if and individual purchases a firearm on behalf of a person who otherwise couldn't buy one then both parties have committed a felony as well the transfering ffl could get in trouble too.
see: straw purchase

one way to sell a gun to a person who couldnt buy one in Texas(or any state for that matter) is if the laws of there home state allow it , then the ffl could ship said firearm to a ffl dealer in their home state and let the ffl dealer of their state do the transfer

hope this makes sense

TX law changed this year (SB 1188), to allow TX residents purchase rifles/shotguns in "non-contiguous" states. Apparently TX was one of few states with that restriction?
It was an obscure law, not known to many, and how was it being enforced? It existed way before NICS. But gone now...
I'm clueless how one would find out their state law regarding out-of-stae purchases.

This is a straw purchase.

Simply answer for you is since you're in California, a Texas FFL won't sell to you.

bummer. I got a similar answer at a store tonight, that I could purchase a firearm in another state but would have to have it transferred to a FFL so they could do (a) a 10 day waiting period, (b) a background check, & (c) verify the gun is legal in Kali.
