I emailed a link to the thread about Nagels to them so that they could see the comments that were being made. The original thread had various posts that detailed poor service from Nagels over the years. Below is the reply I received.

Nagel Gun Shop, Inc.
Wholesale Shooting Goods Distributor
6201 San Pedro Avenue
San Antonio, Texas 78216
R.H. Nagel (210) 342-5420

October 3, 2009

Dear Charles:

I am in receipt of your email of October 2, 2009. I really regret the way you were treated in 1984 as well as the bad experiences of your fellow Aggies.

It upsets me to learn of poor treatments to any of our customers because of the inattention of my employees. I try very hard to select and train the Sales staff here and, for the most part, it works out satisfactorily; But, as you have pointed out, not always.

Although I am not an Aggie myself, I have the greatest respect for those that are. It seems that by being an Aggie, you form a lifetime relationship with your fellow Alumni.

I have been here for almost 58 years – starting in 1952 with my father – and, frankly, have enjoyed every minute of being around guns and those who love them. As far as the Dury’s are concerned, they are great people and run a fine family business.

Again, sorry for any inconvenience we have caused you and your friends. You are certainly more than welcome to call on me personally.

Sincerely,

Robert H. Nagel, Sr.
Owner

While it is a very gracious reply, I find it hard to believe that there haven't been similar complaints over the years that were brought to his attention. It may be that Mr. Nagel is a nice guy that loves guns but not such a great manager of people.

Did you read the original thread? If not, why not go back and read it from a couple of days ago, before you comment. To summarize, someone was posting about being ignored by the Nagel staff. A number of people chimed in, including me, who had been treated the same way over the years. The point I was making with my post at the time was that apparently in 25 years, nothing had changed at Nagels.

Wow, you finally got an apology for something that happened before I was even born.

Bobby Nagel has always been a jerk. I represented Browning Firearms in the early 80's and my coworker that called on them not to mention all of the other representatives ALL said that he was an a$$ to deal with. I guess it just trickles down to the employees acting that way. I have gone to the store myself while on business in SA and found that the sales force were NOT very attentive to the customers myself.

Reminds me of the guys at Military Gun Supply in Ft. Worth.

I love Nagel's; best gun buying experience I've ever had, and an unbeatable selection. Personable sales staff that takes their time to talk guns with you and I like how they provide the extra touch of providing that proof of sale slip that you can keep with your gun in case you're stopped; it proves the gun was purchased by you.

Huh? I own and have purchased a lot of guns, my "proof of sale" is a receipt. Pretty standard business practice from groceries to guns, and unless you are doing something unsavory (i.e. committing a felony) I'm unaware of any reason you would be compelled to prove a gun is yours. Even then, I dunno if that's the case, just trying to prove the point that "proving" a gun is yours is pretty much never going to happen.
