Is Nagles in San Antonio the worst gun shop in the state?

I'm done setting foot in that place. A friend of mine told me they had a couple of their Kimbers on sale so I decided to head that way to check them out over lunch. I sat at the gun counter for about 10 minutes before anyone bothered to help me. Once I got some help the guy helping was rude and not so much helpful. Then I discovered their definition of sale ment marking the guns down from $150 OVER MSRP to about $80 OVER MSRP.

I asked the guy about this to see if they would at least sell them for the correct price and he responded "I'm not even going to bother to ask, because I already know the answer is no". I then asked if there were additional warranties, etc other than the priviledge of buying at Nagles that went along with the premium price. His response to that was "You don't have to leave San Antonio to buy it".

Looks like I'll be lining up an FFL and Gunbrokering this one.

I've never had to shop at Nagle's but they have a reputation for being high.

You must be new to gun shops.

I had the same experience in the 80's when I was in the market for a Browning O/U. I was in there over lunch, ready to buy. The guys behind the counter were bullsh*tting with each other and I finally asked if I could look at a shotgun. They said "in just a minute" and continued their conversation. I told them what I thought of them and their service and drove from there to Dury's, bought the gun and have never been back and don't plan to do so. I don't know who shops there; maybe some of there Alamo Heights cronies, but I don't know anyone who does.

Not to shamelessly promote my business , but that's why we sell guns by appointment only. People seem to really like coming by, sitting down and talking about guns, hunting, or whatever.

Lone Star - Did you happen to see the post by Mr. Sass (yes, it's my SO) on the Houston board sticky? We would definitely be willing to check out your shop since we live in Katy. Thanks!

Sassafras, no sorry just got back from fishing! I'll check it out and we'd love to have you stop by sometime!

Yes. Nagel's is the worst. I went in there a few years ago and asked what options they had for .308 ammo. One of their salesmen tried to tell me that full metal jacket ammunition would be acceptable for hunting deer. I'm not sure if it's officially illegal, but I explained that the whole point of a FMJ is to only wound targets to comply with the geneva convention. I will never go back there.

Dury's is an all around better store...classy people and better gunsmithing.

Fido... (sorry to LSR&R for what I am about to say, but I like to support all Ags...)
First of all, you need to be visiting Dury's down on Hot Wells instead of Nagels. Owner is an Ag (Johnny Dury.) Also, EVERY gun the sell (new and used) have a lifetime warranty. And finally, Johnny is in my dad's Exec Club in SA, and they cut us a deal on the guns we auction off every year at the Wild Game Dinner.

Plus, not to be mean to LSR&R, you don't have to drive to Houston or pay an FFL fee...

LSR&R... if I am in Houston in the future, I'll stop in and see ya and check out the wares...

I'm sure Lone Star is a first class store, but it's hard to beat Champion or Tomball Pawn on Kimber prices. They're both Master Dealers, I believe, which allows them to sell them at a lower price. Just put one on layaway at Champion and pick it up next time you're in B/CS. I've done that on both of my Kimbers.

This...or better yet, if you qualify, finance it for 6 months. No interest and you take it with you.

Just go to Durys and ask for Louis...

I think everyone qualifies. I usually do that on all guns i buy there. Heck if someone is going to give me money for six months for free ill take it.

I bet we're competitive with those places. We're not master dealers or anything but since we're just getting started we sell our stuff for barely over what we pay for them ourselves. In the end any place that gives you good service and a good price is a winner.

Worst people ever...I hate it when I hear about someone buying something from them. The Dury's at Dury's Gun Shop in SA are polar opposites....nicest guys ever.

Ok Lonestar, let's play a game...what's your price on a Kimber Custom II, blued?

They are the worst I have dealt with. Its been said already but it is almost always worth the drive down to durys.

Yeah, I went to Dury's last week, but, their 1911 selection was pretty weak. Probably going to give some biz to LSR&R after I sleep on it for another day.

Looks like I can't get a Custom II now. My suppliers are all backordered. Guess you got me... I can get the one Fido wants though.

LOL, not what I meant. Just wandering what the price would be?

Edit: I do think that the idea of gun sales by appointment is a unique business venture.

Yes, Nagle's is the worst gunstore in the history of gun stores. I think they only stay in business by charging exorbitant commissions on consigned guns that only other pompous asshats would spend money on.

FTW

Dury's is also Aggie owned. Great selection, good people, reasonable prices (they can be beat, but not too often and not by a ton). If you must buy in San Antonio and don't want to buy at a gun show, Dury's is the tits.

I got a great deal on a CZ40P at Nagels, but I think that was a "stars aligned" occurrence. Really don't care for them at all.

Durys ain't exactly cheap, but their service is good and they're Ags.
wadd96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Kramer, you are right, the prices at Dury's might be a tad higher than you will find elsewhere, but the fact that you get a LIFETIME warranty on EVERY gun is worth the difference, if you ask me.

I have had one gun that my dad screwed up. We took it in for smithing, and got it back 3 days later, at $0. Good service, and most of all, good people.

I had a similar experience. Went in looking for my first handgun and the Nagels people were jerks about it and didn't even want to talk to me. Dury's took the time to show me several models and discussed the pros and cons of each. I ended up with a Taurus I wasn't (that everyone wasn't) happy with, and they bought it back from me at their cost so that I only lost a little bit of money. I've been very pleased with them.

I just sent a link to this thread to the sales email address at Nagels. Of course they probably won't take the time to read the email and click on the link.

I thought you couldn't sell guns by appointment and that you needed set hours to do so. I'm going through the ffl application and it specifically asks for hours of operation. Am I wrong in thinking this Lone Star?
AgBrad08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think you have to have set hours that the ATF could come by and check you, not actual store hours that customers can come in.

edit: and what kind of FFL are you wanting? Im just curious. I think it would be pretty cool to be a Class 3 dealer.

Hmmm, i'll have to read it again.

I'm getting a type 1, type 3 is pretty expensive and there's not much of a market to justify the cost, in my opinion, but yes, it would be neat.

Right. You don't have to man a counter or anything. We just have an office/sitting room with some chairs, desks, bookshelves and a flat tv playing outdoor shows. People just come in and hang out. Most people stay for an hour or so.
