I've got the opportunity to get back on a lease out at Doss and was wondering how the drought has treated the area? Anybody else hunt out there and want to give me some comparison on what their leases are costing out there this year? This lease will be 6 guns on just over 600 acres. $2,000/gun and it includes the owner supplying all the stands and feeders as well as the corn from October till the end of deer season. Also included is a bunk house with water and electricity. Nothing spectacular but I've stayed in a lot worse. Does that price sound pretty reasonable for the area and amenities?

Ag97, we have land around doss and that is a good price for what you are getting. They have had more rain out there than the surrounding areas and it looks pretty good on our place. Good luck, just dont hunt the fence lines....

Warning - Serious Response Coming - One of my coworkers has a ranch in Doss that he also leases to hunters. I've hunted out there before to guide an orphan hunt and his guys really like the place and have success. I believe he is around $1,500/gun, but they provide their stands, feeders, and all the feed. He has a couple different pastures, but the one they hunt is about 1,200 acres.

The drought has hurt them just like the rest of the hill country, but it is not as bad as Austin or the coastal bend. They have had more rain than where I live in Kerrville and I have two bucks in my neighborhood that are better than 130, so it isn't like they aren't growing antlers. In fact, I've seen more big bucks this year than the previous three years we've lived here. Send me a PM with your phone number if you want and I'll have him get in touch with you and answer and questions you have. He probably knows the land owner.

The tea I had there last year while standing in line came out of plastic milk jugs and tasted a lot like beer!

hey Ag97, I hunt just out of Harper now. That sounds very familiar to a lease I was on several years ago. What road is it off of? Owners last name?

I can't make the Doss VFD Fish Fry this year, but I do have $50 worth of raffle tickets. Above mentioned coworker is one of the main guys who puts the event on every year.

Here's to hoping they draw my name for one of the nine rifles, or maybe the 42" flat screen.

The line for food is forever long and they serve beer while you wait, so everyone is lit by the time they even get to the fried catfish.
