I got lucky also - my grandmother wanted to start a new family tradition of passing her diamond down to each generation (first son), and I got her 1.5 ct WS1 diamond and only had to pay to have it reset in a new setting.

Any of you have insurance on your rings? I'm not going to let my wife wear a small car on her finger and not have any insurance on it.

I got a pretty nice ring for my wife. Probably spent more than I should have.

For about 2-3 years, I wouldn't tell her what size it was or anything about it. I just said, if it isn't good enough, give it back and to hell with it. I'm sure it was driving her bananas when all of her busy body friends were asking how big it was and she had no idea.

Ditto. I spent over my budget. I figured that you should only do this once your whole life so you might as well get it right the first time.

And yes, it is insured.

insurance on rings is a must, esp if you buy something in the 2 carat range. get the certification papers from the wholesaler that map the stone and also think about having a serial number lasered in if that is not already done

also, somebody mentioned that diamonds are actually pretty worthless and the price is propped up by DeBeers. that is VERY accurate. diamonds can be found literally laying on top of the sand in africa. jews control the diamond market just like they control the world banking system. there is a harvard business review case study about this that we had to read in grad school. 60 minutes also did a piece on this back many yrs ago. its worth the time to read it if you run out of texags threads to surf at work

interesting how this thread turned into people justifying either spending almost nothing or spending a fortune.
