So, headed down to lake amistad this weeken... But forgot my license back in Angelo. If I am ticketed, any chance of anullment with proof of said license.

Can't the game wardens run your driver license number to see if you are legal? Always been curious about that.

I think this one will depend on what kind of mood the game warden is in.

they legally can give you a ticket for not having your fishing license (or also not having your Driver's License) on your person, and I believe the ticket is around $100.

I've not had my license on me twice, once they radioed in my DL#, the other I got a ticket for not having one period. The GW told me to just take my fishing license to the court and they should throw out the citation, which Brazos County did.

you can buy a replacement for about 15 bucks (I think).

I lost my liscence last year during deer season and had to do this, it was pretty easy.

Don't count on the place you go to for a replacement to be able to look up the information on your license. I once was the proud owner of 2 residential fishing licenses because the place I went to for the replacement wasn't able to look up enough data to issue a replacement on my existing license for some reason, and of course I don't have it memorized, so to avoid ruining a trip, I had to buy another license. Found my first one 2 weeks later...still valid for 7 more months...grrr.

I know that if you make enough of a fuss about not having one and getting a ticket for fishing without a license that the game warden will take you to jail. I've seen it happen.

Quite humerous to think about the "so, what are you in here for?" questions at the jail.

isn't a 1 or 2 day license like $10? no need to buy an entire fishing license or maybe even a replacement.

they'll throw it out if you show proof after you get the ticket, it happened to me

They CAN throw it out, but they don't have to. Also, they might require you to appear, so there is travel time involved.

We got carded TWICE on Amistad last year... I wouldn't risk it. Just get another one printed out. If you don't have a license on you, they may board the boat, ask a lot of questions, search your gear, and really ruin good fishing time. Worth ten bucks to me.

Not all those who wander are lost.

Usually they will verify off your DL then give you a ticket that will be waived when you get the judge a copy of your fishing license.

A 1 day license is $10.

I've never fished Amistad, but I have been caught fishing without my license. GW verified my DL# and let me go.

If true, then the GW should be fired.

I can ***** all I want about getting ticketed. That is NOT against the law!

Incidents like this is why I can't stand most law enforcement officials. I think most were picked on as kids and feel like they have something to prove.

Another license question - What about fishing on "border" lakes? My buddy recently bought a lake house on the Louisiana side of Toledo Bend. Is my Texas license enough to fish there, does point of entry matter, etc... I'm sure some of it will depend on whether it's the TX or LA game officials, but I'm curious if there's a short answer.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/toledo_bend/

"Residents of Texas or Louisiana who are properly licensed in their state (or are exempt because of age), or persons who hold valid non-resident fishing licenses issued by either state may fish in any portion of the lakes and rivers forming a common boundary between Louisiana and Texas inland from a line across Sabine Pass between Texas Point and Louisiana Point."

Found this interesting---
"Louisiana regulations for crappie and catfish differ from Texas regulations. Fish that are in an angler's possession on the Texas side of the line must conform to Texas regulations, regardless of the state in which they were caught."

I know for a fact that they can look it up. I was duck hunting on Lake Tawakoni a few years ago with a buddy when the warden motored over. My buddy didn't have his hunter safety course but said he did. The warden looked it up and promptly gave him a ticket for not having it. They can look up stuff just like the cops can.
