How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm sure there have been several threads about this here, but my 10 day search didn't turn anything up. I am in the market and don't know what my options are. I'm in Houston by the Galleria and would like to know what companies put these things in and what the different surfaces look/feel like. I painted on a liner myself two trucks ago and didn't like the feel, and my last truck came with one installed so I don't have a feel for the variations in cost and texture between the suppliers.

Thanks for all the comments-

Have you gone and talked to a place that does it?

I had mine done at Texas Truck Riggins in Bryan.

I've had several different kinds and perfer Rhino Liner. However, it will fad with time.

As I understand, there are three different kinds.
  • Line-X - This is a very hard spray-on liner that is applied at warm temperatures and cures almost immediately. It is impact and scratch resistant. The company claims it is very resistant to fading.
  • Rhino (et. al.) - This is a more rubbery spray-on liner that is applied at cooler temperatures and cures over a couple of days. It absorbs impact and is also scratch resistant. My experience shows that these are not very resistant to fading.
  • DIY - These are sray-on or roll-on liners in a can. They vary by brand and effectiveness of application.

I had a Rhino liner done on my last truck and will have on put in this truck as soon as I save up the funds.

YMMV.

I haven't talked to anyone yet. The liner from my last truck had a rubbery texture and it held things down better than my friends rhino liner. If I could find a place that did those (other than the dealer in Livingston where I got mine) I would look into it.

Who does the Rhino around here and what does it cost?

Thanks-

Does anyone have a shop recommendation in Houston? Do the prices vary much?

Thanks

it's my experience that Line-X is preferred over Rhino. I've had both and preferred Line-X. I had it done by someone on Richmond Ave not far from you.

anyone ever use spray on liner on a deer blind?

I've got a rhino liner and I love it. I've seen the LineX and it looks really nice, too.

IMO, it's worth $500 no matter who you have do it.

I have a Line-X in my truck and I really like it. Beat the hell out of it and no damage or fading so far (been in 1 year).

Stuff still slides around in there pretty good though.

I honestly don't see a good reason for a spray in liner. They're nice, but I like my cheap rubber mat better overall. I haul a lot of crap in my truck and my bed still looks great. People seem to worry about rust underneath, but I've never had a problem with it.

I have and prefer Line X

Mt truck is 10 years old. The bed is all scratched to hell. It doesn't want to rust, even in the spot where I spilled a lead acid battery and it bubbled off the primer and paint!

I'll liner it one of these days...they have to scrape the paint off to do it anyways. I've just given them a head start.

Are those the only two options? Rhino and Line-x? There aren't any other spray ons?

on the texture spectrum where hard plastic is at one end and soft rubber is at the other where do these two (Rno. and Ln-x) fall?

Towns- my understanding is that there's not much in between the Rhino type and the Line-X type spray in liners. From what I've seen there are LOTS of different brands, but they are either hard plastic or the rubberized type.

Also, the only color-matched liners are the hard plastic type (Line-X). I have not been able to find Rhino type liners that can be color matched.

If you are around water... rhino is a little slicker.

One of the guys on our lease built a new blind last year that he coated with a DIY liner. All I can say is that it is bad ass. He used a couple of coats and it came out great.

You should try Master Hitch. It is very close to you (59 and Chimney Rock) and the guys there are good people.

who else does this stuff and is close to the galleria? Rhino's closest shop is 15 miles away. other than master hitch, does anyone have any experience with anyone in my neck of the woods?

Thanks

Line-X

LineX. Both my work trucks were lined when I bought them in '05 and they've gone through alot of wear-and-tear (hauling equipment). The lining has held up very well.

I bought a BedRug instead, but if I had to choose I would go with Line-X.

when I look through threads online I get the feeling that everyone likes the Line-x because of how clean it looks. To those of you who recommend L-X here, is that right? I couldn't care less about how it looks as long as I can put a pipe wrench in a specific spot in the back and find it in the same spot after driving around all day. After seeing a Line-X sample today it feels like hard plastic, and while I'm sure it'll last years I wouldn't expect it to hold anything from sliding around back there.

I saw a Tuff sample and I still want to see a Rhino sample before I make the decision, but unless I'm missing something Line-X is out of the running.

Towns- Line-X is hard rubber, stuff will slide around if you don't put a standard bed mat on top of it.

Rhino is rubberized- stuff will pretty much stay in place.

Line-X does look better to me. Rhino tends to fade a little more which doesn't seem to matter to you.

If you are worried about a pipe wrench sliding around on either one of them you better start thinking carpet. Neither one is velcro.

If that is your criteria then you need Rhino.

Rhino is more rubbery than Line-X by feel and composition. If you live in a damp area like the gulf coast I believe you will find Rhino to be more slippery....

West Texas.....Line-X is slicker.

Towns:
I bought two brand new Dodge trucks in '05, and IMMEDIATELY had them lined. They've gone through 4 yrs. of hauling pumps, vacuum hose, heavy fittings, tools, gangboxes, etc. From WA to CA, FL, MS, SC and back. Lining on both trucks STILL looks great. There ARE some scratches. But considering the beating they've taken, I will ALWAYS go with LineX.

The liners that can tear the skin - I prefer to stay away from those...
