Hey, we were all a bit ignorant at some point.

Brass is a metal, so you probably have a hint that your question isn't quite right.

Full metal jacket is a description of the bullet part of the cartridge, not the case that holds the powder charge and primer. The cases are almost always brass or coated soft steel. Brass are considered "better" due to less wear on your gun, and they are reuseable a few times.

A full metal jacket bullet is a lead (or other) cored bullet that is encased entirely in a jacket or thick coat of copper.

FMJ=ball ammo=brass/lead all the way up to the point (or rounded end)
also: FMJ/ball ammo is good for target shooting and hollow points are good for stopping/killing people/things (despite what the guy at academy might say).
I would suggest you put the gun down and learn a bit more about what things are before becoming a danger to yourself and others.

Please. You don't have to know all the proper terminology in order to be able to handle a firearm safely.

1. Always treat a firearm as if it is loaded, even if you know it is not.
2. Never point a firearm at anything you do not want to shoot.
3. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
4. Unload firearms when they are stored or transported, when you are climbing (e.g. into a stand) or when crossing a fence, creek, or other obstacle.
5. Do not rely on the safety.
6. Visually inspect firearms to make sure they are not loaded prior to cleaning them. While cleaning, make sure the action remains open, and remove all ammunition from the cleaning area.
7. When handed a firearm, do not rely on the person who handed it to you. Inspect the weapon yourself. Put the safety on, remove or empty the magazine, and inspect the chamber to make sure it is clear of ammunition.
8. Be sure of your target and what is behind your target.
9. Until you are ready to shoot, keep the safety on and keep your finger off the trigger.
10. Use only cartridges or shells that are designed for your firearm.
11. Do not use firearms while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
12. Keep firearms away from those who cannot be trusted to use them safely.

Perhaps the OP meant to say copper and he was trying to compare full metal jacket bullets to solid copper bullets. I believe Taurus or someone else makes a line of rounds that have solid copper bullets. I'm not aware of any solid brass bullets though.

I think he meant brass vs. steel/aluminum casings. If you reload - brass. If not, whatever's cheapest.

Remember who the enemy is. We need all the help we can get, guys.

All copper bullets would be quite pricey considering the price of copper v. lead, wouldn't it?

Some of you guys need to be bit more tolerant, the guys was simply looking for answers from his fellow Ags, not an ebashing.

Knowing how to safely operate a firearm and not knowing all the correct nomenclature are not mutually exclusive.

An all copper round would be very pricey, except they DO make them. Leadless ammo apparently has a market.

There was a time for everyone on here when they weren't sure what "full metal jacket" meant or what cases are generally made of.

Just a thought.

What would be the advantage of a copper bullet? Higher velocity due to lower weight?

apparently weight retention and less glancing off bone/dense tissue.
