I am a dog lover through and through, but how many more stories like this are we going to have to read?

Ignorant human trash + dog with powerful bite that requires a firm handler + bad breeding for that dog + munchkins = bad idea.

Happens every day in the US, but everyone always says "my pitbull is so nice it would never do anything like that" until finally it happens. It's not a question of "if", its a question of "when". There should be some criminal negligence charges for granny.

Thats a real shame, I imagine the grandma is facing some kind of charges. Did anyone catch what the one yahoo said about the dogs weighing 120 pounds each. Ignorance all the way around.

Those can't be bit bulls. They might run 50-70lbs, tops, for a large male. They must have some other genetics. Go look up the breed.

I figured the media just uses "pit bull" for every dog that ever attacks or kills someone. 99% of them wouldnt know one if it bit them in the ass...so to speak.

Any large animal is dangerous if not in proper supervision and training, not just pitbulls.

My dog won't bite means my dog won't bite me. I have heard that too many times.

However you want to slice and dice it, but it doesn't matter what it was bred with. The aggression will still come from the pitbull side of the genes. I guess if you breed it with a large dog, then you have a large mean mf'er.

Gibberish is right. I have a 35 pound Bullmastiff puppy that will eventually grow 150+. We work very hard to have him socialized and trained, and even have our 3 year old girls help train him.

Introducing young children to grown dogs that weren't raised around them is a risky proposition. Regardless of the breed.

After looking at the video of them removing the dogs, I's say the weight is pretty exaggerated. I'd also be leaning towards a dogo rather than pit.

No one should have a child die. No one.

That being said, every time I see a truck/car with the large "Pit bull head" sticker on it with one in the back you just know it is a "machismo" thing.

Not in all acounts is it when someone owns a Pit, but with certain cultures it is more important to be macho than consider safety.

I understand that most dogs are good when treated and trained very well, but how many times to we see pits "chained" with little or no attention then suddenly they attack. All of a sudden that sticker and machismo of having one ain't so great.

I've seen to many "sweet" pits snap and go bonkers.

There is a picture of one in my lap, licking my face floating around somewhere. Dog was 6 I think, had been around the kids since they where born. The owner shot the animal in his living room trying to attack his 2 yr old 4 weeks after that picture was taken.....but no, perfectly safe animal. She was a well bred animal btw, not supposed to be from a fighting line....

TO many stories that could be carbon copies of mine floating around to ignore it. People should be required to have a high level of security to even legally own one....Would you leave a loaded pistol laying in your front yard that randomly took shots at people on it's own?

To speak to the topic, Natural Selection has played out just the way it always does.

i'll never understand why some guys need a dog, a truck, or a gun to make them feel tougher.

There were no "guys" involved in this deal... only a grandma and a kid.

Drey, probably the wrong board to question ownership of guns, dogs and trucks.
