Anyone have any experiences using DuraCoat system as a "do it yourself"? I'm thinking of experimenting on an old shotgun first.

Awesome finishes. Could affect fitment if used on parts such as slides, bolts etc...

I put a Hurculiner in the bed of my truck in '05 and used the spray stuff (I think it was DuraCoat) to touch up spots as the Herculiner wore off. I think it would probably work on a gun if you prepped it well and didn't abuse it. If I recall correctly, the stuff shrinks, so you'll probably have to touch it up after a week or so (or maybe mine shrunk because it was in the sun.)

But the stuff will wear off as you use it. There might be a better product out there.

OleRock, that's a different product. Can't think of it right now, but Duracoat isn't a textured finish like bedliners.

Guns were meant to be wood and steel. That's what I like mine to look like. Finding a paint that adheres well to metal without a baking process is difficult. Epoxy bases are probably best.

The paint comes in lubricated and non-lubricated. It is a two part epoxy, so I think it should hold up fairly well.

I have a revolver that's been duracoated and it holds up well.

Properly applied duracoat is the heat. Great if you want a gun that's less visible or just one with a different look. Will wear on parts like grips and stocks and with heavy use. IMO the wear gives a gun some character.

You can buy stencils and shades that allow you to match ACU and MARPAT.

Mrad, If you duracoat the slide on a tightly machined pistol such as a Sig, you will not be able to get it back together very easily, if at all...
