got1forya,

What do you mean? They're going to charge me two more times? Is that legal. I might talk to my buddy who's a judge then. I didn't want to play the trump card on such a stupid ticket, but I might need to if they are going to charge me 2 more times for a ticket I just paid off.

I think he means the Driver Responsibilty program...

if that ticket puts you at 6 points, you get a yearly license surcharge because you're a bad driver.

except seatbelt tickets don't add points

AgDog02 - is Snead still the JP in West Columbia?

My friend and I got ticketed for not wearing seatbelts on that stretch of road back in 1997 on our way to take an ACT test in Angleton. Only cost me $75 then, but now I buckle up every time.

the seat belt ticket, as already mentioned, is not a moving violation and therefore does not add any points to your driving record.

Canyon Ag, I agree 100% that most people who have farm tags do not use them as required by the law. Thats why if I do pull over someone with farm tags, I won't write them a seat belt ticket, but if through my investigation I can tell they are coming straight from another job or any other violation of their use, I will cite them for improper use of farm tag. It is amazing how many people use them for whatever.

And it is also probably true most officers will not take the time to bother to check and see if they are being used properly.

No, its Honerable Sherry Kersh. I don't know anything about her. I know my JP. If it would have been in my pct/place I have went to see him.

I pushed the issue all the way to meeting with the DA prior to going to court to fight the seat belt ticket in Allen, TX. I also sent many e-mails for months to officials complaining about wasting my tax dollars on wasted police time.

Well anyway, the case was dropped.

There's no reason NOT to fasten your seat belt the moment you get in the car.

Most old farm trucks either don't have seat belts or they just have the lap belts.

One reported problem with lap belts is that in an accident, the lap belts themselves can cause very serious damage, notably paralysis of the lower extremeties.

AggieBarstool...

My reason for not buckling up...

I don't want to and shouldn't have to.

if a vehicle is equipt with only lap belts, they are not required to be worn.

There are plenty of reasons to not put your belt on as soon as you get into the vehilce... the most common of which is that you will soon be opening a gate...then closing it.

Another would be that it's pain enough to match hitch ball to cup on your own without having to buckle & unbuckle every time you move the vehicle an inch this way or that...

One of my brothers swears that you aren't required to wear seat belts in any 1 ton pickup.

Nothing about that in the statutes that I can find.

I found a DPS announcement that the law was extended to 1 ton pickups effective September 1, 2001.

in Texas it does not matter the weight of the truck, there are some states that do read that way.

OnlyForNow - "I don't want to and shouldn't have to" thats fine logic except it is a totally selfish decision. If your family is OK accepting the fact that you were killed in a car crash, and the fatal injuries that you sustained were a direct result of you not wearing your seatbelt, then so be it. My family would not accept that very well though.

it is not only a safety issue, but in some cases a control issue.

if you ever take a hard left turn on a vinyl bench seat without a seatbelt, you'll suddenly know the feeling of being a passenger.

I witnessed a bad accident last night, truck got T-boned on the passenger side by another 3/4 ton truck. Passenger wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was really banged up/fractured skull, etc. My point is that he was pulling out of a parking lot and hadn't traveled more than 10yards before getting hit. Buckle up before putting it in gear people, it's that simple.

If you get tboned then a seat belt isn't going to do much for you
