  Hello,
Just thought you, or your boys in some cases, would think this was
interesting.  It was an eventful night.  Matt was combining on Tuesday
evening and all of a sudden this buck was in his head.  He thought it got
out but then all of a sudden it was back in it and stuck.  We thought Matt
and his Cat did good to get an eleven point buck without even hurting the
combine.  We got it out and finished combining for the rest of the evening.
James and Jake went to field dress it and hopefully we can have some deer
jerky or sticks this year and Matt will have some new décor in his house.

Sucks to go down like that I reckon. Can you even take a deer like that?

I mean clearly he did nothing wrong by combining, but are you allowed to actually utilize the carcass, or is it like a road kill? Did he tag it? Sooo many questions.

That's weird. You hate to see it trapped, wounded, but still alive, but what can you do?

Potentially. This would also not fit in my definition of hunting. Harvesting I suppose, but not hunting.

Where the only two things to do are drink and farm... and this is proof you should never do both at the same time...

My FIL got a doe in his cotton stripper one time while I was visiting. Made for a great day quail hunting along with some more venison for the dinner.

That's a shame.

Unfortunately, I've hit more fawns with a haycutter than I care to recall. If you're lucky, they are newborn and crouch down and you can drive right over them... if they are just a bit bigger, they still don't have the instinct to run and are too big to travel over.

Unfortunately, there usually are fawns of various sizes out in a field, so it's not like you can time the cutting to avoid them. The does usually are pretty good at getting them out once you cut a field many years in a row... and we always leave a good strip in the middle so mommas can come walk their babies to safety that night.

1) It was funny, lighten up.

2) If you ask around you'll likely find that most believe I AM a jerk. I just couldn't pass on the opportunity.

I don't see why it would be an issue to utilize the meat. I think that would be a lot better than just letting the coyotes and vultures eat it.

I don't see what the big deal is. Also feel the same way about road kill. It's dead. you can't bring it back to life. If you hit it with your car truck and its dead but edible or antlers are nice, why can't you have them?

I didn't say I had a problem with it personally, but I don't think it would be legal in Kansas. Just made me think...

I've hit several with farm implements, but never an 11 point.

During the spring cutting wheat, it's hard not to run over fawns. The does take them out in the wheat because it is often the tallest grass around and bed them down. They don't know what to do when they see a giant Gleaner heading their direction.

If it was in Nebraska, they have a pretty liberal "road kill law" for as anal as their actual deer hunt/tag rules are. While they call it their "road kill rule", it doesn't say it has to be on a road, only accidently killed with a motor vehicle.

From Nebraska Game & Parks:
"A person who accidentally kills a deer, antelope or elk with a motor vehicle may field dress and take possession of the animal at the time of the accident and take it to his or her residence. The person must notify the Game and Parks Commission within 24 hours of the time the carcass is picked up and before the animal is processed so a conservation officer or designee may issue the person a salvage permit. Meat from these animals may be possessed for 90 days after salvage permit is issued. It is unlawful to sell or trade any meat from a salvaged carcass. An individual may possess only one road-killed carcass at any one time and must have a salvage permit for the carcass in his or her possession. It is illegal to possess a deer or antelope carcass that bears evidence of being shot illegally."

One more casualty of the ethanol subsidies...
Sean98
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Bit of a stretch, don't you think Texan? I'm guessing that land would be farmed even absent any ethanol side issues.

I just can't get over the fact that the f-ing deer is stuck in the combine and some redneck is snapping photos. Am I seeing that wrong? Is it typical for one to keep a camera in the combine?

Don't know what else to say about that....maybe YEEHAW?!

Maybe they went for help to see if they could get the deer un-stuck. Then realized that the deer was wounded in such a way as to necessitate dispatching it, which they proceeded to do.
